I have a 94 S-10 158,000miles witha 4.3 CPI (OBD1)and the 4L60E tranny and it sometimes downshifts (feels like it slips into) from 4th to 3rd while cruising at a constant highway speed for no particular reason. Yesturday it took a while to go into reverse. I hate to say but I believe my tranny is going bad and will need to be replaced soon. I do not have the money to repair since this is usually around $1000 besides I do not know of any quality transmission shops in Miami. What I want to do is get the tranny off a wrecked S-10 or Blazer and put it on my truck.
I would like to get a tranny with less than 100K miles on it, so I could go for another 50K miles before I run into problems again. This brings me to want a tranny off something like a 98 or newer if possible.
I believe these also bring the same 4L60E right?
These are also OBD2 where mine is OBD1, but I dont think it matters respect to the tranny.
Am I right? Can I put the tranny of a newer OBD2 truck into mine?
Any other comments or help will be greatly appreciated.

danny, is you "service engine soon" light coming on? my 2000 s10 did the same thing. It turned out to be my shift solenoids in the tranny. it cost me 230.00 for new solenoids, a new wiring harness, fluid and filter change for the tranny. hope this helps

im not sure, but maybe you can call a chevy dealership and ask the parts department. they'll know for sure if they are the same transmissions...
i always thought miami had a lot of places to get trannys/engines and parts. Have you looked on ebay?

There's that place called "S10 Warehouse" in Bradenton that has anything you will ever need for your truck. They sell on ebay. If I had to guess, I'd say that the newer tranny would be a direct swap. But that's just my guess.

THanks guys, I am sure I can find a tranny down here. I am going to replace the solenoids to see if that does the trick. If not then I'll have to change the tranny. I'll take care of that once we have power and things go back to "normal" since hurricane Wilma left 95% of south florida without power.

Another note, the 4L60e has a tsb about slipping out of OD sometimes while cruising from new for from some reason, so don't worry about that part too much. I think Brian K posted something about that...
