For the love of god I have looked low and high to find this wire...it simply doesn't exsist!
1st Gen, ripped off original deck (gone before I got the truck) 3 wires yellow black and grey sticking out (very short) I tested current on the yel. and grey, less than 1ampres. Replaced every light bulb in the cab, checked all the fuses(good) SO i ran a 16ga. straight from the battery, no other choice so far...then I made an accessory switch. Switching that thing on and off was a bit of a pain, so I got under the column. Played around a little bit, found something that is an accessory wire.
Used that, spliced right in, great! Go to pull out of the parking lot, use my turn signal. Guess what goes on and off with that turn signal? Yes....my radio.
The hayes manual doesn't really tell where or what color code the accessory wire is so that is no help.
Any other alternatives? Anyone? Thank You in advance!

my geuss by accessory wire you mean the remote wire right? if so then try to find if you have a power antenna wire and splice it so when the radio comes on so does the antenna. or look for a ciggerate lighter that give of around 12 or 14 volts and that should work.

under the dash where the wires run out of the steering column there is a brown wire it should be the accessory wire coming from the switch and for the power you can do like rocky 59 said and tap onto the cigerrette lighter for constant 12 volts. hope this helps

if it is going to be used as the remote wire, don't use a constant hot wire. that defeats the purpose. the only thing a remote wire does is tell your amp when the car is running or the key is back, therefore turning your amp on.
buy an aftermarket headunit and use the blue wire that is on the harness that comes with the h/u.

there should be a connection at the fuse box , labeled ign. this comes on whenever the key is in the "run" position does your truck have one

you should be able to test with a test light at your fuse box if it isn labeled ign. i just tapped right in there.

try those ways first but it you cant find anything theres is a pink and green wire that runs in the harness to your dash it controls the light (if then switch) try tapping into that

alright I will try those ways...tapping into the fuse box...i tried that once, didn't work...not enough amps....no I don't mean remote, got that covered with my Sony FX5170 HU...its a pretty sweet MP3 player...but keep that encoding at 128kbps or less, if not you get short little pauses in your music while it rebuffers. ANYWAY I'll keep you guys posted.

so you are not talking about the remote wire........ if you aren't then what are you talking about??????
edit: i get it. you don't have the turn-on for your RADIO. i have been thinking amplifier the whole time. stupid me. get a multimeter and check the fuse box to see which fuses are only on when the key is the run position.

GOT IT!!!! I found what you were talking about bdshaver. There were actually two sorta brown wires. 1 wire was a true brown then the second one all the way towards the firewall was more of a tan. The Brown wire was a constant it seemed.
I still have the 16ga. coming straight off the battery, which is fine...it runs in with the 8ga. amp line through the antenna opening, no gromit.
I might change that all later but for now everything is fine. If I did tap into the fuse box labled "ign" wouldn't I lose all my settings?
Thanks so much guys!
