my amp died today, smoking and all. never seen this before the internal componets are fine. the terminal on the outside however like blew up. the plastic all heated and expanded but the weird thing is it was the ground that went, any idea? why also could it have anything to do with my dying RCA cable.

not a good enuff ground connection. or you had to much power going to it. what gauge wire? what ohm was it stable at? and did you have a retard moment and swith the power and ground? lol

I am running the amp at 2 ch x 2ohms ( at which it is stable) it is possible that i may not have had enough ground i am running 8 AWG wires to the amps and no i did not swithc power and ground. I may be a retard but even a retard can tell the difference between "+" and "-".

Also, are you running a kenwood deck??? I killed 5 amplifiers with my damned kenwood before we realized that it was surging out the rca's....Open the case up and see if it smells like burnt electronics. How big of a fuse were you running in the power cable, what kind of amplifier as well....Yes this has alot to do with it!!!

I would hope so^^^^^^^LOL
But seriously, what kind of amp did you have, what kind of cd deck, and how high was the gain turned up???

Sony fx7700 deck with 3 audiobahn a8002t amps one of which has only remanents as you can tell from my thumb. i have had problems lately with a rca cable but it wasn't the deck, just the cable.

you would be surprised by how many times this happens, even to installers. accidents happen when people are being careless.

for the record, i have never done it, lol

You are running 3 separate grounds, right??? If you are this does sound like a case of a loose ground cable....Or just something going haywire in the amp itself, around the ground

BTW, I couldn't tell my Power Acoustik amp was dead, until they took it apart and looked on the otherside of the pcb board. And I also have never crossed the +/- wires up before, but I have had a remote wire come loose and hit the ground!!
I really thought the amp was gone, since it caught my truck on fire!!LOL
