Hey all, me again asking more shock questions. If you where putting shocks on a stock height 98 Blazer 4x4 would you spend the $ for Rancho 5000's or just go with some Monroes or something cheaper like that. I'm talking like the $15-$20 Monroes. Just curious. I don't plan on raising it any time soon. The front shocks are shot so I needa replace them and I might as well do all 4. Just curious on your thoughts.

Unless you do major off-roading, most any shock will work and ride fine.

As long as you get high-pressure gas filled (the better replacement shocks) you'll be fine. The Ranchos won't hurt, but are a bit of overkill for street driving and sensible off-roading.

The ranchos are not that bad for street, but not much use unless you plan to do serious off roading. I got four Rancho 5000s on mine three months a go, nice shocks but I also got 30% off hehe. Just get some decent monroes if they are less than rancho 5000s, but get rancho if the decent monroes are about the same price as the Ranchos is what I would do.

If you don't plan on off roading much I would go with the best Monroe light duty truck shock you can get. But if frequent off roading is you forte then I would go with ranchos. Get the shock that best fits your most frequent needs.

one word: Billstein
they are definitely worth the extra $$, just make sure the autozone guy orders 2 fronts and 2 rears, not 4 fronts  (what an idiot, i told him i needed 2 fronts and 2 rears and he still ordered 4 fronts)
P.S. they are not as expensive as they used to be, around $50-60 per shock, used to be around $100/shock a few years ago

I had Rancho's on a 1983 4x4 S-10 blazer and I thought it rode harder on the street. When I got off road and hit the good bumps they were very nice and smooth. Pretty much depends on how you use your truck. Good luck with you purchase. :D
