I am wondering as I am planning a project...

What is needed for an engine to run while its sittin on an engine stand?

-Battery
-Ignition
-Computer?
-Fuel Stuff?

its not good to run and engine with out a load on it ....just a bare engine with no trans will over rev far to easy and really cook it fast...also cooling is needed to add to your list like a radiator with air moving over it if you plan to run it very long at all......and make sure you have headers on it at least...dont want to float a valve

The trans will be pulled at the same time, i'll just leave them together. I could also just hook up the old exhaust system to it. Plus i've got an electric fan i'll have running at the same time for cooling.

when i said cooling i ment radiator...not just fan...a fan alone will not keep your engine from burning up

Ya, when I said i'll have the e-fan running I was meaning w/ a radiator. :p

What about electronics? I mean, is it basicly just the ignition setup that needs to be hooked up?

to run on the stand it should have everything it needs to run in the truck, electronics/sensors, cooling system, fuel system, some sort of exhaust so you dont kill yourself.... .

The are right you need basically the same thing as you need in the truck. Ignition system, fuel system, cooling system, starting system, not necessarily the transmission but flywheel.
I have seen people crank older model v8s on a chain hanging from a hoist but just to show it ran before selling it.
