I've used a body lift on a 1986 S-10 Blazer. Its pretty cheap and easy to install but leaves the suspension stock. If your using it on the street that would be the way to go. However, if you are going off roading, then you will want the suspension upgrades that a lift kit will provide like travel, drop and clearance. :)

definatley go with the suspension lift. the suspension lift will keep your suspension geometery in tune whereas a body lift will through it off.

Actually, a body lift substantially increases loads on the suspension, even on the street. If you want to keep the stock suspension at least swap in polyurethane bushings and upgrade your shocks.
A body lift does nothing but provide more tire clearance. A suspension lift provides more tire clearance, more ground clearance, more suspension travel, and suspension geometry designed to handle the higher roll center. A body lift is cheaper. A suspension lift is safer. Why not do both?

just going for the bigger tire size... the look,as i live in the city. im having trouble finding a variety of suspension kits. what name brands are out there, and what recomendations do y'all have, and who had trouble with what...and why not both(susp, and body),missouri has bumper height laws, and state troopers that are aware of them. :D
by the way im lookin at a suspension lift cause i have a 90 blazer that has a body lift and the floor shift transfer case handle is attached to case ,not body so shifter dissapears into the floor. also the spaces in between bumper and body and bumper annoy me... mattio

iv only been able to find a 6 inch supension lift for a first gen (which is what i was looking for) from rocky mountain suspension. i think they were around $2000. it wasnt worth it to me so i decided im going to do a SFA conversion and use jeep lift springs. much stronger, more flex and cheaper IMO.

I would not waste my time on a big body lift. Maybe an inch or 2 max, any more then that and it starts to look real ugly with all the frame showing. And an inch or 2 should not interfere too much with the floor shifters. But I would certainly get most of my lift from the suspension. It looks a hell of a lot better and it is more practical for off road use. It is worth the expense in my opinion.

thanks for your feed back. i found a 2-3"lift at jc whitney, for around 500 bucks, and im ordering it.should be about 2weeks. then to get my buddy to install. maybe a couple weeks.... any who... mattio
Let me know what you get in that JC Whitney kit.. I've thought about that as well..
I've found the over axle leaf conversion kits but havent been able to find anything for the front. It would be nice if someone offered a spindle lift kit.. The only thing I've been able to find for the front are torsion keys. If you get a set of those for $80 and some lift shackles for the back you should get 2 inches. I've got the 3" body lift on my 89 Blazer 4x4 and the 4x4 shifter works fine. I would like to get another 2 or 3 inches myself and go with 33's I'm running 31x10.5x15's now.

I see that you have already purchased you lift but i just wanted to add my .02. I now have a zr2 with a 2" body lift and i like it alot better then the skyjacker 3" suspension lift i had on my grand cherokee. With a body lift you keep the majority of your factory driveability. As soon as you start making changes to the suspension you start changing the driveability. When i lifted my jeep it put the allignment so far out that it could no be brought back into proper settings with what i had. Thus changing the rideability and driveability of my jeep. Keep us posted on the lift and good luck.
