After lots and lots of searching I finally found a project truck. It's an 89 s10 reg cab 2wd 4cyl 5spd. The truck is in really good shape. The current owner bought it as a project and changed his mind. The motor is currently out of the truck and comes with another motor. No big deal. The entire truck seems to be in really good condition except the cab corners are starting to blister. Somebody decided to upgrade the grille but didn't relocate the headlights. This thing is GREEN, and by that I mean a shade between lime and highliter. Yuck. The guy is being really cool about the whole sale. He is going to hold it for me because I just had to drop $400 on books for the semester, a truck payment, a car payment and insurance. I will keep this thread updated and when I pick up the truck, which should be very soon (less than a month), I will post some pics. Once I physically have the truck I will start to lay down plans.

there used to be a first gen xcab s10 in my town that flat grabber green. i went to school with the guy. the truck was pretty cool, it was bagged, had a phantom grill and would lay frame. also has some chrome 5 stars, i think they were 17's. i'll post some pics of it tomorrow.

You got all that for $400?! My auto insurance ALONE is more than $800/month!

...I think he meant $400 for just books, plus the rest...

Definitely. Books this semester for me were in the upper $300's again.
Spaceblue, you've got to get a picture of the truck. That paint job sounds like me right now...sick. :(

i wish i could get all of that for only $400 a month! my books were $400, then the rest.
i don't have pics yet, but will be going back to drop off a small deposit. when i do i'm planning to snap a couple pics. the green is crazy and to top it off he put carbon fiber vinyl racing stripes on it.
so are you bringing both trucks to ITB justin?

Probly, I will let either my GF or my neighbor drive the Static Adict as it will be named. I am gonna static drop it insanely low... Either that or it will be sold before then... I am really just getting it to practice on and give me something to do.

i'll second that! the wife and i have been discussing tax returns. what may happen is a 50/50 split with the money and my 50% will go into the truck.
i'm going to drop off a deposit this weekend to secure the truck and while i'm at it i plan to take a few pics of it.

well i just talked to the owner of the truck and he will be available this weekend so i can snap a few pics and hand over some cash. only problem is this thing is sitting in a muddy field. i can't wait for everyone to pitch in their thoughts of the green!

as you can see, the left fender will be replaced, the right door will need the dent knocked out, and i think i'll replace the bed. the interior is not that bad. the next time i go back, most likely to pick it up, i'll get some pics of the interior. i looked under the truck and the bottom of the cab looked perfect and the frame looks good. i can't wait to bring it home and strip it down to see everything its gonna need.
the wife actually is starting to get involved! she asked what i'm gonna name it. i'm shocked!

it appears to be a very solid truck. as far as plans, hmm.... now that this is going to be realistic and not just a dream i have to really lay down plans. i have so many ideas in my head, i just have to pick one and apply it to this.

Its in good shape for a project truck. It would be awesome lifted with a v8 *hint hint*

nah, its a 2wd. i'm trying to figure out static or bags, fuel injected or carbed, and keep it a 5spd or covert to automatic. i'm down to 2 paint choices and a couple different wheels. i'm going to lay down most plans and then post them for review.

I'm sure the supply is somewhat limited but I don't think they'll be running out soon.

I love the grill install on your project truck. There was a guy who lived next to me back in florida that had a standard cab long bed painted that same color. I always knew where he was. Theres alot you can do with a 1st gen like that since your gonna slam it. Lift kits are in short supply for the S-series though which is my problem. I'm looking forward to the build up!

i thought that was a nice touch! i asked the owner about it and he blamed it on the previous owner. this i find interesting since he told me he drove the truck for a while.
I'm looking forward to the build up!
you and me both! i've put together a few plans but still open to some others. some include:
paint: black metallic over sunburst orange with a dark silver body line stripe to break up the colors
interior: currently black, thankfully, so a complete restoration w/simple mods
wheels: up in the air. on the low end of the budget-i found a set of boss wheels just released at ITB (can't remember the number), on the high end of the budget-boyd coddington osiris wheels
suspension: depends on which motor i go with-bagged with a 4/6 cyl or static with a v8
these are some general plans which are subject to change. this will be a long term project. so as long as the site is around i will post progress!!

i can't wait to get started on this thing. i may be leaving for arizona for a job. this job will fund the project faster, the only problem will be dragging that thing all the way out there!

Hopefully a Base coat/ clear coat. Get that baby shine! Looks to me like someone gave it the ol' acrylic enamel paint job.

i'm really starting to get excited now! sucks that your projects aren't working out. i don't think i'll have this one ready to take to ITB this year as a project. i have a little sheet metal to buy, cab corners and front fender, and a whole bed. i'm going to strip it down as soon as i get to take care of the green paint! this will be a long term project really.
