Which winter tire do you have on your truck and /or what do you recommend? These tires will just be used for the winter.
cheap Farm and Fleet tires all- season

i like true snow tires, studded if legal and you can stand the noise. i have run mastercraft (cooper private label) and kelly, both did well

edit, for the record he is refering to mastercraft glacier grip 2's
also for ontopic posting, find a tire thats aggressive and dont go too wide with it.

i live in wisconsin but we dont get as much snow now so i bought the Yokohama Avid ST wich are great all-season tires. I went wider and only paid $51 per tire from tirerack. They do really well for my mostly city/hi-way driving.

I live in Maine where winters can get a lil rough sometimes. I have a 2 wheel drive s10 and last year i had liberator all terrains on it and they did fine but this year i up graded to the bf goodrich ultra grips my buddy had on his and they worked great. I'm also running them one size bigger a 215 75 r15 instead of a 205 75 r15. great grip in the snow but a lil soft on the tar.

I use BFGoodrich All Terrain TA's in a 215/75r15 size on matching mags. Gets good traction but not too noisy. We get all kinds of snow, slush, ice, black ice, freezing rain, etc in Illinois. They say in Illinois, if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute. :)

Studs aren't legal here in Chicago. Does anybody else run BFGoodrich All Terrain TA's?

i had a set of bfg all terrains on a previous truck...loved um...did really well...i have had more agressive treads too and i dont mind tire noise. also remember that if snow is your concern then you dont want to go with a wide tire...it makes them "float" on top of the snow and loose traction...if ya look at the little rally cars they put thin tires on um to push down through the snow and get traction.

I use Firestone Winterforces, 215/75/15, studs in the back and regulars in the front. Those are the meanest, baddest looking tires I could find and the time and they are awesome. Only downside is that the studs do make a lot of noise but it is a small price to pay for not sliding around all winter long :)

Studs are great but are only effective to -20 after that they start to loose to a good rubber tread with sipping on the tread. (little cuts) I have always like BF goodrich all terrains and have run the all year round. I'm just trying to wear my oem tires off so I can get some.

HAHAHAHAHA, you all are crazy for buying snow tires.....I have run mastercraft avenger gt, firestone firehawks, and goodyear triple treads on my old s10....LOL I never had any problems and used my 00 4cyl as a snowplow sometimes.....Yes 2wd s10's will go through 3-4ft snowdrifts in the country!!!!! My 98 has seen one ice storm and a decent snow, It performed very well due to it's locking diff, and it had bald goodyear eagles on it!!!!! Anyways, I feel snow tires and ABS are uneccesary...LOL

I have always used BFG All Terrains on both of my s10's (91 s10 4x4 and 88 s10 Blazer 4x4) all season long and I love them, they do great in the snow, my Dad also uses them on his 95 Toyota Tacoma 4x4, any my Bro uses them on his 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee. all of whom love them and have no complaints about performing in the snow. You can pick up a set of 235x75r15's from tirerack.com for about 105 a piece. They are like 108 at sams club, but they will install for free. pretty good deal.
i agree with s10mafia50
just have good tread on them (heck i have Farm and Fleet's cheapest tire for winter, like $35 a tire, and they work just fine), 200-350 lbs in the back, don't drive too fast for conditons, and you'll be fine

i live in upstate ny where we get alot snow and ice.
i ran 14"allseason Coopers tires on a 89 S-10, 2-wd.(wish i still had that truck) i never really had much a problem. but like alot people that lives in areas that have alot snow & ice, " Just have to know how to drive in it".
if u find ur rear end sliding, put some weight in the back, perferly around the wheel wells. but remember, more wieght u have, longer it will take to stop.
iv seen guys release about 5 lbs from their tires,to get more trackion. that ok if ur driving on nothing but snow, but on reg pavements, ur just asking for a blowout.
when going down a steep hill, put it in 1st gear, that will help maintain control better.
yea tires do play a factor, but also it how u drive in the winter too. :)

I put on Winterforce (no studs) on all four wheels. Haven't seen any snow here yet, but I'm a big believer in snow tires - I even use 'em on my other 2 vehicles - both AWD Subarus. I also put three 70lb bags of sand over the rear axle. As it's my third vehicle, I don't expect to have to drive it on bad roads, but I want it to be there if I need it.
