I want to add a remote start and power locks to my 2000 s10. Has anyone ever tried this? Remote starts are easy enough to come by, but I am concerned whether or not I could install power locks that I could link to the door open button on the remote start keychain.
Have any of you ever attempted this type of upgrade? Any suggestions?

ive done this on a couple s-10's , though it has been in an install bay . i wouldnt attempt this unless you are very very familiar with alarms , and electronics wiring . since your s10 will require a couple of bypass modules , and alot of extra wiring along with initial setup and programming , not to mention trouble shooting . it would probably be a better idea to leave it to the professionals .

I added power locks to my 1997 S10 using a kit I bought on eBay for around $15. I'm not sure how much space is behind the door panels on 98+, but it was quite a tight fit on mine. Wiring them is very easy if you know what your doing, just find constant 12v, ground, and then just wire them into the Keyless Entry/Remote Start/Alarm box your installing too. There's an unlock wire and a lock wire you just attach the relays included with the kit. Some of don't need switches to work; all you have to do is move the lock lever on the door, and both actuators lock/unlock.
You could also source out some OEM door locks at a junkyard from a Blazer or S10 and wire them in along with replacing the door switch panels to actuate them.
Remote Start installation was pretty easy for me, I installed one in my 1992 S10 Blazer 2-Door that already had power everything. Just look at the install guide and look online HERE (http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/alarmdetail/523.html) for the wire locations that you need to tap into. The hardest part, I thought, was to get the ignition/starter/accessory wires which were in the steering column on that truck...
Hope this helps.
