whatsup guys...i got 2 frineds that are trying to sell me a sub and an amo for my truck...the first guy is trying to sell me an 10" alpine type R sub which i know is a very high quality sub, i also would get a kenwood 4 channel amp that i could hook my speakers and this sub up to also, hes also gonna gimme the box and the wiring...

the second kid is trying to sell me 2 rockford phosphate p3's...ive heard good and bad stuff about these subs...i only want one of them but i must by both...i would split them up, take one and sell the other. they are basically new hes had them for 3 months in his rx-8. hed also give me the rockford amp, he wasnt sure which model with it...he wants like 500, but i could still sell the other sub.

which do i buy?

I have always been pleased with Rockford Fosgate. I used to have a set of 12" fosgates in old car. They hit really hard and sounded great.

Personally, my comfort sits with JL Audio. But that's me.

I would take the Alpine sub. Its much higher quality and doesn't sound distorted when its cranked up.

Do you have any spl scores??

I have heard good things about the W1 subs. They are a good entry level sub. And for the price, you really can't get much better. I wouldn't mind trying them out, but I am more into the highend stuff.

Do you have the components amped?? If not, I recommend it. They will get way louder and sound a lot clearer amped.

Yep, I'm going the same way towards highend stuff(never will own another JL product), and just now have picked up a m3000 cadence amadeus amplifier, and am waiting on the new cadence triplexx's to arrive in the shop. Buy Cadence and no one will know what they are, but will be impressed. Check out click me! (http://www.cadencesound.com) Anyways, I hope you chose the type-r over the rockford's. The alpines will plain and simple pound, I just finally sould mine....lol.

No subwoofer has surpassed the JL W7, in terms of both spl and sq. Sure there are subs that are louder and subs that sound better, but it is almost unheard of for a speaker to sound as good as the W7 does while getting that damn loud. It is one of the best subs made, IMO. If I wasn't hooked on RF, I would have gotten one for my blazer.

I wasn't thinking about getting the Type Rs. I have a Rockford T2 15 and I wouldn't change it for anything (unless it was a 13W7).

If I am ever building a "budget" system, I would look into getting the Type Rs.

I've heard of the Cadence brand and seen them in action. When my friend opened up his shop he decided to go with brands not many people had heard of: Planet Audio, Swiss Audio and Cadence. he had a few others I don't remember which. but I was really surprised at the quality and sound that the Swiss and Cadence products put out. the planet audio was something to wonder about though. as a matter of fact he gave me a Cadence Mallet 10" sub to try out and GAWD DAMN!! Was I impressed.

planet audio make some pretty damn good amps for the price . really small footprint on the A/B amps , so you can stash them about anywhere . they do make some good subs too .
ive seen and heard cadence in action , i can honestly say ive never been impressed with them . as far as their amps ......you really dont want to get me started there ........

Can I make my own choice? Add a place in that poll where you can choose either Audiobahn or Kicker!!! I'll stand here and swear by either of those brands. Rockford fosgate though if Audiobahn or Kicker suddenly get blown off the map.

I Built a "budget" system 1 2nd jen jl w6 12 with a kenwood 1000 watt amp cap and deep cycle battery about 1000 dollars invested but it was bought piece by piece btw s10maffia50 if you spend the extra money for the w3 or the w6 like i have they sound awsome and last for a long time (if your not overpowering them)

But for the future im looking into a 1000 watt memphis amp anyone owned one of these before???

I have never owned a Memphis amp, but they make good products. The shop I used for a long time was trying to convince me to run Memphis, but I never did.

Their amps will put out their rated power.

Oh and by the way, you are overpowering that sub if it is getting the full 1K watts......... ;)

Im running at 3/4 power on te amp which means technically im over powering it a bit but its kenwood i dont think it quite puts out its rated power.
My sub doesnt distort or bottom out so i think im dooing ok on power. I would really like a way to measure the power im actually putting out just to see but i know im not overpowering. The sub doesnt stress at all and i have been running this exact setup for 3 years in June

Umm dude this question was asked over a year ago and besides an ascendant arsenal would put a kicker 15" l5 to shame, and the havoc would make a solo-x cry. The havoc is along the lines and is supposed to be louder and sound cleaner than a jl-w7. Im tired of mainstream audio you can get stuff that will perform the same if not better and cheaper than most of what jl, kicker, RF, and alpine offer. Only thing i like about these brands is ebay is a great place to get them.
