Ok, I know all of us do it (or have done it)...... No sicko i'm not talking about that. I'm talking about Street Racing. Just tonight a guy in a Dodge Neon tried to race me so I raced him to the speed limit (gotten to many tickets to race on the streets anymore).
So, just how many of you still race on the streets?

aw man i just love pullin up next to someone who thinks their car is the "shit" and we both know it's stock , but he dosen't know i know it's stock and he looks over at my raggedy , rusty ass motne carlo SS (and yes it is a real SS!) and i just bust his ass!!! up to about 80, 200,000 miles on the stock motor and trans so it dosen't like high speed too much. just goes to show it ain't go to look good to go fast!

I don't street race but from time to time when I'm driving along side someone at a low speed like between two stop lights, I will kick on it and hit second to see if they will gun it. But I never do any more than that, I just like to see and hear them when they punch it. (it is a plus when I get a camaro or mustang to reply, once I got a SS camaro to fly by me.)

Yup, same thing here. Free room and board if ya' get caught in Florida.
Heck, I'm a licensed NHRA driver and I KNOW better. But, when the prick in the ricer pulls up and starts shit, I'm gonna finish it.
It ain't right, it ain't legal, but damned if I don't still do it. At 42 years young. ;)

heh heh ... I used to be like that ... I just like to gve it a little gas every now and then to feel it kick into second end push me back in the seat when the tires grab
It's also fun to mash the pedal in the Jeep CRD (diesel) I just got and watch the black cloud erupt before the turbo kicks in ... (technically I do this to clear the gunk off the turbo vanes)

Shit, well.....does Illinios or Kentucky have laws against street racing??? Anyone out there???? I have street raced my entire driving career.....parents are nuts for letting you borrow a lincoln ls v8 sst(I love autobahn chip in it). I like to think that I take as many danger factors out of street racing when I do it....long stretch of road, no traffic, no adjoining roads, and divided highways are my preferences. I think you are alright as long as you know when to shut the race down, If you have proved your point....I feel you have a right to stop. I am addicted to the thrill, which has been a major driving force for me to go to drifting and autocross events, I'm getting a BMW 318ti to compete with. I guess I am a young dog that will never learn new tricks other than driving fast!!

I definately don't make it a habit of looking to race every car or truck that pulls along side me. Don't get me wrong, racing gets the adrenaline flowing, but with law enforcement cracking down on street racing it's almost not worth it. I once got pulled over for doing 40 in a 35 and not having a front plate, although I fixed the plate and got it written off, I still ended up with a $190.00 fine (ouch) Imagine what would have happened if I was racing some fool in another car. Next time someone tries to race you just let them speed off and get pulled over, and while the cop is writing them a ticket just cruise by laughing and pointing. :D

I like to street race, allthough I have slowed down a lot lately since my truck has almost 160,000 miles on it and it just doesnt run like it used to (besides the tranny is not working 100% well).
I don't consider myself one of the crazy street racers that end up hurting themselves or others since I do not run just anywhere. I choose my spots where I can get a nice clean run without any intersection, or places where other cars can get in my way and ruin things. Like S-10 mafia sail, I also run enough to prove my point. Usually if I run on the street I will not go any faster than about 60mph, since by that time it is pretty clear that I won or lost. I also run a lot on my own (with the Gtech) to see how I am doing and if the mods made any improvements.
When I had my S-10 350 I would run it ALL THE TIME. I couldn't get much more than 3,000 miles from the rear tires.
I later bought my 94 S-10SS to slow down and have a nice truck. It wasn't long before I started running this one too from time to time.

I used to race all the time around town. But now the local fuzz can recodnize my truck, not many look like it so i am always being watched. I still do every once and a while but the cops are really cracking down, to set "examples" of people I am just really careful

twice last week i had "defend" the S-10 honor, the first one was a audi A3 and the guy did not want to go any faster than 70, and the other one was a cavalier the kid thought he was going to go around me at the light, i thought different
coming out of 2nd gear & into 3rd the poor little truck came around and i did not see anymore of the cavalier
BTW, my S-10 is a 1991 2wd regular cab with 4.3 with 95000 miles but motor has 68000
she aint pretty but she still is fast
as for street racing, i have to be careful when and where, but i still indulge every now & again
I've got two little tales.
First, last week, I was making a left turn onto the local "strip" and there was a "cute" little civic about to make a u-turn. So as I passed him, I goosed the gas just for fun. "Shockingly", he pulls up next to me at the next light and starts creeping up to the light. Of course I know what he wants to do, but I wait. The light turns green, I let him get a half a car in front of me and then just blow the doors off him. At the next light he never pulls right up next to me and takes off nice and easy. Think I hurt his feelings.
Second, was last night. I pulled up at a light which I was in the right lane and it ended in 1500 ft. There was a girl in a Del Sol. She starts creeping up. I wasn't going to let her get a head start. I brought it up on the converter to about 1200 rpm. The light turned green and I just pulled away like she was standing still. Thought she might put up a fight, but she didn't. But I think I did piss her off, she tailgated me until I turned off on my road.
I only race if the road is clear and I know there aren't any cops in the area. A lot of people underestimate my Jimmy. It's not fast, but it's faster than most Econo cars with the typical coffee can, intake, and spoiler.

Here's to that rob, btw...how much more does your jimmy weigh over a standard cab v6 s10??? Just wondering.
Andrew
Well not sure how much an standard cab S-Truck weighs, but my Jimmy is around 3600 lbs.

we have certian area's here in Maine that they "overlook" street racing. i can't say i've never done it  . However i never will race anyone who i think isn't a good driver and always will look a vehicle over before i line it up to make sure everything is on the up and up with it. I don't want some lil rice burner throwing a rod and it ending up hurting someone or something. Normally i don't have to worry about that someone or something being me cause my trucks ahead. I do not condone nor encourage street racing, street racing does not kill people it's people's poor driving skillz on top of poor judgement. i'm not callin myself a nhra approved driver either but i try to keep track of whats going on around me whether im racing or not. All in all though it's somewhat funner to do it on the track anyway, that way you always can tell how your truck performed and have the slips to back it up.

I'm guessing most people involved in racing on the street that ends in death think the same way ...
I do agree with the track racing though ... not even getting into the saftey thing, having timeslips allows bragging rights.
I usually run at the drag strip. It's kind of a family thing. Dad, uncle, 2 cousins, and brother race along with me. I've been going to the drag strip since I was 7 or 8. I would prefer to run at the strip, but if a little import want's to run against me, I'll give 'em a "run for their money".

ya screw the imports an mustangs with there top end , i make it look like i won when i beat em with my 250 ftlbs at 2200 low end an 190 at top of the gears so in lil stop light races that last about 1/2 a block
sure s10s have decent 0-60 times but unless heavly modded gonna be killed in top end

street racin? i do it every once and a while. if someone pisses me off than i will run him down. but friday night i was on my way to my friends house, this S-ER goes hallin ass past me i run the pecker down and from there we went from a 45 roll. now the nissan is front wheel drive as i am rear wheel, now he pulled on me just a little bit than by the time i hit 4th or 5th gear i had by maybe 2 or 3 cars. and this thing wasnt stock neither it had an exhaust, intake, headers, and a chip, because no sentra has pulled on me like this one did. but thanks to the good people at edelbrock, flowmaster, and jet performance this truck kicked ass once again in south florida. American power.

The newer se-r's are really quick stock....if they have the 6speed trans, my buddy's caprice(94 5.7L) only beat a modded on around clearwater by 1/2 a car length.

Hey guys, I was a member of this site a few years ago and wish to thank you all for the truck lifestyle I get to be a part of throughout the years. As far as street racing goes- my advice dont do it. But for all the people who continue to do it- I was just like you. People would say stop racing, bad things are gonna happen to you and all that thing and I didnt think so. Well I was wrong, I was at the races one Saturday night and I was winning all night long when a guy didnt appreciate the fact that he lost a bet after our race. Not only didnt I get my money but me and my best friend got stabbed twice each for it. Not cool. If I was smart enough to stop then, I probably still wouldnt have been to jail. After we recovered we kept racing and ended up in jail one night. That is when it stopped being so much fun for me. If you do it- just be smart about it and if you have a bad feeling about it at any point in the night, go home early. Every time something bad has happened I had a bad feeling about it before. Anyways guys thanks so much for the knowledge in the tech forums and all that stuff.
