What are the differences in the 4x4 club cab frame and the 4x4 extended cab frame? I believe they are the same lenth but I dont know if there is actually any difference.

If I found a wrecked club cab 4x4 would I be able to swap my body parts and everything from my 2WD Extended cab?

It wouldn't be a direct swap but if the wheel base is the same then it could work. I don't know what the wheel base differences are from the x-cab to the 4 door. Without looking at one my best guess is that the front cab mounts will line up as well as the rear bed mounts. You'd probably have to make rear cab mounts and front bed mounts.

I am thinking the actual body parts between a 2wd and a 4x4 are the same. so it would just be finding out if the extended cab and teh club cab frames are the same.

ok, here is the deal. I found a 2003 club cab 4x4 S-10. This truck has the engine, transmission, and the frame that I want. but it is wrecked. the cab, hood, fenders, and drivers doors were badly messed up. It is being sold for $2450. the frame, engine, transmission and all that are good though. I currently have a 2000 s-10 extended cab ls with a 4cyl engine. I am wanting to swap everything from my current s-10 to the frame of this truck. Fenders, hood, cab, and bed all will be swapped and whatever else that will be required to swap. If anyone knows if this is possible let me know. I want a 4wd, I cant afford to buy one new, and I think it would be fun to do a project like this. From what I understand the frames are the same, a few modifications might need to be made since the 4wd is a club cab and mine is an extended cab. Let me know if this is possible or just plain stupid.

Are they both extended cab? You keep saying club cab and extended cab. I thought you were speaking of a 4 door.

the wrecked truck is a CREW cab, my truck is an EXTENDED cab.

well sounds like you need to measure center of hub to center of hub on your current truck..( which is a 2wd extended cab shortbed. ) then if someone watchin this thread has a ( crewcab 4x4 with the half a bed ) can measure their center of hub to center of hub..then that will tell you if the frames are the same lengths. if they are the same then everything from your truck will bolt to the crewcab frame. but like MReed said, you would have to fab up new mounts for the back of cab and front of bed. as your cab is shorter but the front of your bed is longer..or rather than fab new ones, those mounts for the cab/bed are usually one piece so cut yours off of your 2wd truck and cut the ones off the 4x4. then bolt your body to the 4x4 frame the bolt the cab/bed mounts from your 2wd on then weld to the frame..maybe throw a tape measure in your truck and when you see a crewcab go measure it, might get the answer you need a lil quicker. (might be one at your local dealer). to bad the crewcab is shot, you could jus extend the frame and put your reg size bed on it...but anywho, good luck

I would measure it if I were home. This would be so much easier if it were a extended cab s-10 instead of a "CREW" cab.

http://www.cars.com/go/crp/research.jsp?section=features&crpPage=features.jsp&makeid=9&modelid=5067&year=2001&myid=&acode=&mode=&defaultSelection=true

is this what I am looking for. it says that for both the Crew cab and the Extended cab the wheel base is 122.9". This one shows for a 2001 but I looked up a 2000 and a 2003 and it is the same.

Has anyone ever taken the cab off their s-10? Just curious about how heavy the cab is by itself and how much work it took.

http://www.linnsauto.com/index.cfm?id=3&num=F08%2D0481&order=a.make

this is a website that has pictures of the actual truck that I am buying. Like I said before the hood, fenders, cab and doors are probably non repairable. The seller says the frame is in good shape and he even said that this truck is repairable. but maybe if someone could get a good idea about the damage and if its worth it.

Also, this is a question I have not been able to get an answer. If I swapped everything over would I still use my current VIN or would I have to use the Crew Cabs VIN? I would rather keep my vin because its not a salvaged title. If anyone asks I could just say I upgraded and modified my truck to be a 4.3 automatic 4wd.

Well there you go...looks like a swap project to me! No matter what you do with the title paperwork you'll end up with a rebuilt title. That is assuming you are going to be completely honest with your BMV. It also depends on what you do with the leftover parts. In the past I have been able to sell VIN tags with their respective titles off of trucks that I have used for parts then scrapped the rest.

Lifting the cab isn't that bad. Once you get it torn down to the cab itself you can do it a couple of ways. If I have help I'll roll the windows down (or remove the doors) and use a 10ft (or so) piece of 4x4 as a handle by lifting from either side. Then you can just walk it off. If I'm by myself I'll jack it up pretty high, toss some jack stands under there and drop the frame.

hell two weeks aint a long time but in your perspective i bet it seems like a life time..i couldn't imagine..well if the site you found says the wheel base is the same then they prob are the same between both body styles and all yrs. so id say your good to go on that part..as for taken the cab off, i have a couple diff times on a square body standard cab..ive got a chain hoist in the rafters..two straps one on the front and one through the door windows and lifted it up and changed it out..if you have no hoist.. jack the cab up, put 4x4's under the back so they extend to both sides of the frame, a jack stand or blocks under each end. then do the same with the front. until you get it high enough to roll the frame out from under it.. or call over 6 to 8 friends...im guessin my standard cab was around 800 lbs approx. so yours would be more..they are pretty heavy..as for the vin #, as far as i know you have to have the vin that is on the tittle in the windshield. it would be illegal to swap them ( would look as if you stole a truck and changed to the vin # that you had the title for). so you would do your swap and leave it at that..you'd let insurance know you have a bigger motor and 4x4 now, if you wrecked it and it didnt match what ins has then they may not cover you..

Thanks for the help. Now when I go on leave in may I will have a cool project to work on. I am planning on parking the two trucks next to each other stripping them down to the frame. trashing all the broken parts. Putting my parts on the new frame then selling the rest of the stuff. I am wandering if there is any fun projects I can do with the 2wd frame? I will sell it but I could put the crew cab parts on the 2wd frame and possibly try to fix it and sell it. I guess I will figure it out. First I should just get the broken truck.

one thing you have to keep in mind too, is,
the the ext. cab, shot box,
and the club cab, half box,

have different cab mounts.

the ext. cab has 6 mounts, and I believe the club cab has 8,

even if it has 6 as well.
the half box mounts won't line up properly with the short box mounts.

definatly not a direct swap . i know the 4x4 crew cab frame and the 4x4 X-cab frame are different . the s-series basically had 4 different frames . the only 2 models that could be swapped easily were the reg cab long bed and the x-cab short bed

the different frames are as follows .

reg cab
reg cab long bed / X-cab short bed
X-cab long bed
crew cab
