View Full Version : dent popping
on my passenger door i had a patch panel welded in and my buddy hurryed it. Caused the metal to expanded and made two dents in the door.
i tried pushing them out from the inside and no avail.
could this work, heat the dented areas up and cool it quickly w/ dry ice or ice water.
 would i have to push out on it from the inside before cooling
any advise would be helpfull, thanks

If i were you, i wouldnt do it unless id done it about ten other times and know how its going to react. I would take it to a good body shop and see what he would say to do, most will tell you whats going to happen as appart of the estimate.
the ice idea is to fluid and just ebcuase people see it on monster garage a couple of times, doesnt mean it will always work.

Not sure if the water method will work when its already that way
It definatly works when you are first working with it (done it many of times)
Are they to deep for body filler ?
Have you not done the bodywork yet ?
if not go ahead and try just don't get it to hot !!!!!!!!
Hope it helps
the dents are 1/2" and 3/8" deep, too deep for filler
i will go talk with a body shop how to fix it
i'm doing like 95% of the work since im in high school
just ebcuase people see it on monster garage a couple of times, doesnt mean it will always work.
well i read this in mutiple auto body books i've read

if you want 2 you can sink weldin studs an pull it out then bondo it your self
pretty nice lil deal you can get a generic kit for 100 $ it just sinks these lil rods in by weldin with the gun u get with the kit an u clamp on this pole an pull the shit out it wont make it perfect but it will get enough to bondo it smooth
stud weld dent puller when you go to your tool store pretty nice to have around

if your gonna do the ice water trick than if you mess up its pernament thats how they make swords , its hardens the metal to cool it that quick

Don't know why I didn't think of the studgun and slide hammer LOL
That will be your best bet
The whole heat and water trick is best left to the more experienced bodyman

When I got into a wreck, that's how they fixed the huge crater in my cab/passenger side door/rear quarter panel.
Got it well enough to bondo it up and smooth it out.
worst come to worst with the ice is i have to buy a new door skin and do the welding myself
and the dent puller won't work (talk for a sec with a body repairer)
Going to talk with the guy who help fix my dads 72 olds( he has been on vacation)
Oweenzy ur dent was pushed in
mine was caused by heat

I got all of the dings and whistles on my truck pulled/fixed for less than 150 dollars, and I would say I had a good 10 that ranged in size.
