Hey I'm new here so be gentle my 95 sonoma was resently totalled with only 67000 miles on it so I'm tring to save the motor. I've found a 96 with a bad 4.3w motor. The 95's 4.3 is a z motor. What kind of trouble amI looking at if any?

the thing that sucks about your problem is that they changed the moter in 96 so there is alot of wireing that would need to be done. that would be alot of work.

I will have the 96 truck complete as will as the 95 can the wirning harnesses be swapped truck to truck or can intakes be swapped also?

I believe the engine block is the same. You could swap the heads and intake for the better performance to your 95 block. Everything else would then plug on okay with the 96 truck.

So let me see if I get this stright if I don't change heads and intake I will need to change wiring harness and computer. Will that be a simple plug in type of switch? The reason I ask is the 96 has 145000 miles on it the 95 motor only has 67000.

95 is an OBDI System 96 is an OBDII system. The block probly wont even for for things like knock sensors.

I am in the same boat as you are I have a 94 4,3 code W motor and it will not go into my 96 SS, Which is also a code W motor . The block timing chain cover is different one is 10 bolt and one is 6 bolt. The cover has the location for the Crank Sensor in it and it can not be used on the 94 block as it will leak. The cranks are different also as the 96 the crank is .100 longer for the mounting of the crank sensor wheel. A few other differences also block ribs and so

So even if I change wiring harnesses and all from the 95 to the 96 Things aren't going to work out?

After some more poking around the internet and asking questions I've been told that if I use intake and /or heads from the 96w motor the 95z block should work but not with out much work. Any other suggestions or advice will be muchly appreciated.

Ok so now I may have some one interested in the 95 possible trade for a 4.3w motor. .....Is there anything I should look out for Year (96+)?...... What it came out of?
