Okay I got a 99 4 banger and would like to get a new alt to accomadate some power for my accessories. My question is what is the best Alternator to get to help boost my battery? In other words what amperage shoud I go with?

Stock is 105 amps, and what kind of draw will your accessories be pulling? You can get alternators that provide up to 180 amps I have seen but you may need that much power. Let us know your accesories you plan to run and we can go from there.

i seen some on summitracing.com that are 150 amp, cant remember who makes them though...

you can get them a lot bigger than 180 amp i have a 250 amp on my truck and fixing to add another one. ou can buy high amp alts from ohio generator pretty reasonable.

yeah I already have e-fan and that draws a good bit. I put a smaller alt pulley on and it helped a good bit, but my prob is my amp and soon to have another amp running to my door and dash speakers. I also have some little hidden lights for a good effect. So would 250 amp over do it or should I go with a 150 or 180?

I'm running a flex a lite black magic fan with an optima red top battery and it's fine. If you change to a high current alternator, you may need to rewire your system with larger gauge wire depending on the current output. If you catch the wires on fire or melt something, you're screwed for sure then. Find a current/gauge chart to see what you need to be running wire-wise. Probably need 2 gauge or bigger if you go higher than about 130 amps. That's just a guess based on my electrical/wiring knowledge. I'll look into it further, just for the insight. :)

Here is a link to a chart for wiring. Looks like the stock wires may work, but here it is anyway...American wire gauge load capacities (http://www.rbeelectronics.com/wtable.htm)

well I got '0' gauge wire running to the inside of the truck for my accessories and I know thats plenty big enough. Are you talking about re-running my e-fan wires with a thicker wire?

the only reason you would have to cahnge the size of the wire is if you draw more current. no amtter what the alternator puts out they draw on each of the accessories will be the same.

sam is talking about upgrading the big 3 wiring - alternator to battery, battery ground, and alternator ground wires.

my amps are pulling about 200 amps and i have electric windows and door locks. so far i have not had any problems with the stock alternator and wiring. my lights dim and the voltage drops when the stereo is cranked up. i plan on getting a local shop to beef my alternator up. i am not sure how much yet though.

a lot of people on the net get alternators from dom iraggi (sorry i have no contact info). i have heard great things as well as bad things about his products.

Man I too been looking at Alternators. get a 150amp Powermaster from Summit. Pricey at about $250 but direct replacement without have the need for wire upgrade. I have alot of electric accessories too but i plan on running two batteries for a Air Supension.

yeah, jsut the main wires. The accesories pull current based on their resistance, not the alternator output. All your accesory wiring will work fine, but make sure the main wires are correct.
