What Would be the Easiest way for me to Increase the Fuel Mileage for a 1996 GMC Jimmy 4x4 with a V6 Vortex engine?
It's "Vortec". electric fan, high flow air filter, free flow exhaust, headers, solid core plug wires, etc...

Raise your right foot. Intake, exhaust, ignition, e-fan, will all help for about 3-4 mpg but not giving it lots of gas off the line and having more gradual acceleration and braking 99% of the time will make a bigger difference than you think. Only add the mods if you want the sound and/or power as the cost of them takes awhile to make up with the 1-2 mpg increase you get.

I just figured out what I am actually getting for fuel mileage and if I did it right I am getting about 21 Miles per gallon or 7.5 Kilometers per litre.

21 is good for a 4.3, I assume mostly highway so your doing well. But if you ever want to mod for more power and for the thrill this is the place to ask,

I have a 95' with a vortex V6 I get about 12 MPG, if I'm lucky. But then on long trips on the freeway or hitting freeway speeds I get around 25 to 30 MPG. But I'm also running 31". I have intake, exhaust, and e fans.

i got a 2001 sonoma 4x4, 4.3 vortec, auto tans. and get 12 mpg.
it runs great. but i dunno why it so hard on gas.
it got a tad over 30000 mi, i change the filters, gas & air. oil been change regularly. have a tonnue cover on it. body never been smashed. tire wear is normal..shifts ok, no engine lights come on. becuz i thought maybe the o2 sensor was the problem..ran some fuel injection cleaner in it. tryed running different grades of gas. im running out of ideas. this been going on for over a yr now sence i bought the truck. and other then the filters, it all stock. runs ok. no rough idle, but what coulds be causing poor gas mi? im running out of ideas
anyone, have any ideas? thanks

Have you changed all the fluids from the rear diff to the tranny fluid (don't forget the filter!)? As those age the protection wears off and they get dirty and somewhat sludgy over time and do effect performance and milage. Next, get a tune up and make sure the there are no brakes dragging and the front end is not needing new ball bearings or anything and that it is holding a proper alignment as that will cause decreased milage too.

yea i thought about that too, i brought it in to have the alignment checked and all is good. even the ballbearings, brakes. and i feel no Drag while driving. sence this truck a 2001 and has low milage, i dont see where i may i need a tune up. my tranny fluid looks ok and has no smell. im thinking it may be the o2 sensor, but no engine lights is coming on. oil pressure, temp, all running normal.
im gona try ur suggestion & give it a basic tune up. and change the o2 sensor while im at it. etheir way im going to be putting money in this truck, if not in parts..for gas.

I would start with the O2 sensor and perhaps a tune up. A tune up is good since it allows you to read the plugs and see how it is burning.
The list of things that may be hurting your mileage include a MAF, Coolant sensors, ing coil...

a tune up would be a good idea...my TBI with 132XXX miles gets 19mpg

ok ty all for the replys.
another quick question i was wondering...
comparing a 2 wd & 4 wd, same 4.3 eng. make, all that, just that one a 4x4 & the other a reg 2 wd, is there much difference in mpg?
reason why im asking im looking at a 2001 s10 4.3 v6, 2 wd and about the same milage i got on the truck i have now.

not sure if the 4wd get any better or worse fuel mileage but i would suspect that maybe they should cause they should be heavier and also if i'm correct they came out with motor that made more horsepower then the 2wd (190hp) so thats what i would think

I saw on Trucks they changed to using Royal Purple in the trany transfercase and rear ends and got better milage.
