engine must be the same year (or newer) as the vehicle, and all emissions controls on the newly installed engine must be installed and functional. Also, you can't put a heavy-duty truck engine (over 6000 lb GVW) into an S-10 Truck because heavy-duty truck engines have less stringent emissions limits than light duty trucks.
Is a 1500 halfton that has available v6 or v8 a legal engine to change because it is a halfton? The 1500hd and 2500hd are the ones that would not be legal right?
Just wondering thanks for the input

Engine switches are acceptable as long as the resulting vehicle matches exactly to any "certified" configuration of the same or newer make and model year as the chassis.
"Any engine" from the same chassi make and model of our s10. chevy would have to put a v8 in a s10 and certifiy it. Then we would of been able to put a v8 in. this is for california
That sucks a$$
Sorry to break the news

I agree with the Nazis in California. Way too many liberals wanting everybody to be just like them because they are perfect and the rest of us must conform. Hmmm? Kind of like the Nazis.

I wanted to put a V8 in my s10 back when I lived in Cali.
There is a way around this, but you will need to wait a couple of years. In California any car or truck over 30 is considered a classic and is smog expemt. Therefore, in 6 years you will be able to put a v8 in an '82 s10 and not have any problems since the truck will be expemt.
I know this sucks, but this is the only legal way to have a v8 s10 in california.
