Transfer Case Output Seal ? 2000 S-10 4x4

I had a shot universal, my father and I are in the process of replacing it. Everything is ready to be put back in however when we removed the shaft from the T case no fluid came out, Should fluid have come out? Is the seal in my Transfer case shot or is there supposed to be no fluid coming out?

No fluid should come out unless the transfer case is angled almost upside down pointing to the ground. If all you did was pull the driveshaft, no fluid should come out.
