I recently had my y-pipe replaced and there was a reduction in the volume, but it still seems pretty loud in the cab. It's cold enough here to see the exhaust, but I can't find a leak anywhere. I've also got a Gibson cat-back installed that I had not heard on it's own prior to the new Y-pipe. I can't imagine that it should be this loud in the cab though. Brand new KN filter also. Stock headers and cat. 94' 4.3 Any ideas?
Changing the y pipe will have no effect on the tone as long as it's the same or nearly the same diameter. The cat back system will resonate somewhat in the cab since you have a louder muffler than stock. If you have a leak, it must be in one of the new welds if you didn't hear it before. Helps to have a tailpipe all the way back to the rear if you have room or dion't mind one. I have a turndown since I don't like pipes showing. It's louder than it was with the whole tailpipe, but you get used to it and don't hear it as much anymore.

Check your exhaust pipe clearances.
In a previous vehicle, when I had some work done they fouled it up
so the pipe would tap the underside of the truck at "just the right RPM"
--sounded like a sawsall.
BRRRRRRRRAAAAAAZZZZZZ!
Seems funny, looking back on it. Those :angry3: Idjits.
\Good times??? Really???

sounds to me like you just have an exaust roar...pretty common with s10s that have had an exaust system put on...only real thing you could do is put some sound deadening material in the cab to knock it down some....like dynamatt or somthin like it. i had a 99 s10 with a 4.3 with a flowmaster 40 series and a turndown right after the muffler (due to the fact that i had the truck bagged so i couldnt run the exaust all the way) it was really loud in the cab of that at about 2500 rpm... and at idle would rattle the change in my cup holder. its just how it is i guess

Thanx for the feedback. First of all I can't seem to find any signs of a leak. Second it's not vibrating on anything. And finally considering the "exhaust-roar", I suppose this could explain it because it is very aggressive out the rear, but I've noticed two "roars", the one thats coming from the rear and the other from the engine compartment. I've also found that in park and neutral the sound is not as loud in the cab as when I'm driving. I've looked it over again and again and can find no visible leak. My only thoughts are a small leak in a weld up out of sight or in the connection between the header and the intermediate pipe? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

probably the mufflers, might cant see it on the outside, but inside of it might be burned out. and that will cuase it to roar. i mean, think about it ur running alot more back pressure. ;) that why it so agressive.
'i wish my truck was like that..lol"

if it doesnt stop think about sound proofing your cab with a sound deadener. just deading the floor with two layers should be enough. only need around 36^ft for the floor and thats around 3 layers i believe. that will keep all the sound out for sure!

Now I've flipped the lid on my air cleaner and the sound has toned down a bit? What am I to think of this? Not as sluggish either!
