2000 GMC Sonoma 2.2li 4cyl 5spd manual transmission (clutch replaced at 35k mi, 83k mi currently).

I'm having trouble shifting in and out of gears. It seems to me that fifth gear is easier than first/second/third, and reverse is as bad as 1-3. Mainly, it seems that it's hard when I first start my truck on a cold (45-55 degrees) day. Letting the engine warm up doesn't seem to help, and after driving it awhile it seems like it gets easier to shift. I haven't had this problem prior to the past two weeks, and it seems to me that cold makes it worse.

Any ideas? or is there any other information I could find out that would help?

how hard do u work your clutch in terms of towin or heavy loads and are you good with the stick...you could have just worn your clutch down

I'm good with the clutch, always smooth shifting, don't race at all really, and NEVER tow. It has served as a daily driver to and fro, not much more than that.

I had trouble similar to that in my old isuzu rodeo with a 5spd. It was very hard to shift through all the gears and reverse was the worst. anyways, it turned out to be a bad slave cylinder. After I replaced it everything was normal again. hope this helps a little

Does this involves dropping the whole transmission... when my clutch went out the first time, a friend of mine and his dad changed it out at their shop for me, so I'm not very familiar with the different parts.

I'm not sure I would have all of the tools for this, but I do have alot of "basic" mechanic tools.

Anything special needed for this, and any details on the process, or some pointers would be great!

Also, if anyone else has had a similar problem and would like to enlighten me, feel free.

Ok, today i get in the truck, I can easily manuever through all of the gears with the truck OFF. When I turned it on it was almost IMPOSSIBLE to get it into gear. It's not cold outside really, and earlier when I said after I run the truck for awhile it gets easier to shift. I figure this is due to the truck slipping into the gear rather than a shift. You CAN shift without the clutch if you catch it just right (not that I do) but I think while the truck is going this is what makes it easier to shift, because it's still hard. When I am at a complete stop, it's really hard again. Does this help?

Ah well, i've already commited my baby to Aamco transmissions here in town. They're gonna try and just replace the cylinders because that seems to be the problem, and if the clutch is not well off, then i'm gonna get them to go ahead and replace that too while the tranny's out. Bye Bye 600 dollars... right before xmas.
