I think I have a rod going out on my 4.3. Instead of getting it fixed, I was thinking of throwing in a rebuilt 350. I was curious as to where I may find one that isn't too expensive. Not looking for the preformance rebuilt ones, just the regular 350. Any ideas?

Just my opinion, if I was gonna put in a 350, I would either rebuild it or buy a new long block from Grooms, Jasper or GM.

autozone can get stock crate motors for a very reasonable price

If you buy an engine from Auto Zone, make sure it is a new one. I've known some people to use their rebuilts, and they are not good.

My s10 is getting old.... I never really thought of just dropping a v8 in it. If I bought a crate motor, how much would it cost to have installed? (ballpark) Won't the tranny need to be changed as well? I have an '89 with the 4.3

BTW... ok, so I did thing of putting an 8 in it a long time ago, but that wouldnt be legal in CA... dont matter now since I dont live there anymore.

Cost depends on the induction, ignition, trans, etc. Having it done, you're looking at $6,000+.

Doing it yourself, with a carbed replacement longblock, dual plane and 4-bbl, HEI, coated headers, custom exhaust, using your old accessories, maybe $3000. Keep in mind, that's a brand new long block, intake, ignition, exhaust, and radiator. Add $1000 for a built TH350 or $1700 for a built 700R4.
