Just moved my engine back further than normal and used a short tail shaft 350th. The driveshaft needs to be about 3/4" longer than it is. Does anyone have a stretcher or know of a driveshaft that might work with my combo that I don't have to cut?

Sorry I don't have answer, but I have never heard of something likle this. Hopefully for you, I am wrong.

Your best bet would probably be to have a custom driveshaft made to your specifications.

The going price around here to have your shaft stretched is $50.
Sex not included.

You guys kill me. I just want a drive shaft that is 3/4 to 1" longer. I only have about 7/8" spline contact. There isn't a whole lot to the stock yokes anyways. I just thought that maybe there would be something in the local junkyard that might fit perfectly. I even thought about using offset blocks to move my rear end foward. Any help would be appreciated.

Check around for a splined end 3/4-1" longer than yours and put it on your driveshaft and U-joint. There are some spacers for lifted trucks but I think they
are all for CV joint ends. :)

It will cost about $150 to have your driveshaft lengthened. To get the correct length measure from the END of the transmission case (where the seal is) to the middle of the u-joint hole on the rear-end pinion gear.
Give that measurement to the driveline shop along with your driveshaft and give them a few days. Dont' guestimate, they know what they're doing but that is the measurement they will want.

I never measure for a custon drive shaft. I load the vehicle on a trailer and let the shop take responsibility for making it fit.

They're going to take the same measurement as you are. The vehicle has to be on all 4 wheels. Measure from the end of the tailshaft to half way through the u-joint hole on the pinion. Seems pretty straightforward to me. I've done it with 3 different driveshafts and never had a problem.
I'll also be doing it with my Vega when I have the 6-speed buttoned up.

I got it fixed yesterday. I went to the local junkyard and found a shaft sticking up between 2 trucks. I think it might have come from a ford. It measures 54" and seems to work. I had to get 2 "bastard" joints to make it work. The guy at the junk yard said he used the shaft to pry the trucks apart. I checked it with a straight edge and it is not bent. Thanks guys for the input. Copper

I'm surprised that it worked. Usually the splines are different on the output shaft on the trans. Nice find. If you run into a vibration it's probably out of balance. That's a cheap fix.

I had to use the yoke off my old drive shaft. They sell a u-joint to mate a ford shaft to chevy yokes or vise versa. It's kinda weard though. A regular chevy u-joint is just a little too wide to be able to install the inner clips on the joint caps. I tried several different kinds of joints and had a hard time finding one that fit perfectly. Even joints from the same company with the same part numbers were subject not to fit. Thanks, Copper.

very good find, IDK what these guys are talking about with $150 to have it lengthened.....I got an entire new shaft, slip yoke, and universals for $75.....lol. I just had to drive all the way back across town to have it installed finally....lol. Which cost me another $35 considering they had to yank the remnants of the slip yoke out. Anyways, do be careful for these mixed universals and watch for balancing problems.
