Just bought an 82 s-15 with a 2.8. Automatic, 2WD. Any ideas what gear ratio it might have? No tag, I will pull the cover if I have to, but was hoping someone on here knows. Thanks, Jim

It's probably a 3.08 or 3.42 gear. There should be a number stamped into the passenger side axle tube between the spring and pumpkin with an alpha code. Wire brush it to find the code and then checkout the Tech section on here to look it up. :)

Also, check the RPO codes on the sticker in the glove box. There should be a tech article that tells you what they mean on this site somewhere.

My 2.8 had the 3.43 on it originally. To check your gear ratio if there is not sticker and you can not find the number on the tube you can just perform a simple test. You can put your trany in neutral and jack up you rear end. Then you want to turn one of your wheels and count how many times your yolk turn compared tot he wheel. That fraction will give you your gear ratio.
