Is anybody familiar with removing the clutch fan on a '98 2.2?? I just got my efan yesterday from summitracing.com and I've heard a few things about removing the clutch fan, but I'm not sure what all's involved.

I know you don't hafta remove the 4 bolts that hold the water pump pulley on, like the directions say, but do you hafta loosen the big ~1.5" bolt thing that connects to the water pump, and brace the pulley to keep it from turning, or is there a tool you can use? Thanks.

Local auto parts store have a wrench set and holder to remove the fan. There some ungodly metric size. I got one here, welcome to borrow it!

I know its huge...I was doing a little tinkering just now and found the biggest wrench I had....1 1/16" and it wasn't even close to big enough. I think its gotta be close to 55mm or something...almost 2". Anyway...I'll go check that thing out and get 'er done. Thanks.

yeah i did mine last year on my 01. i got a wrench set from autozone and the one they gave me didnt help at all, so i had to take a wrench of my own , set it on one of the 4 bolts of the pulley itself and turn the bolt until the wrench rested against another bolt, kinda locking the pulley with the wrench. depending on which way you have to turn the big nut to loosen the clutch itself depends on which way you need to set your wrench on the pulley to lock that. if i remember right, you turn the clutch nut to the left if your facing the cab from the front. it was a pain in the ass for me because everything was on so tight. it might help if you have 2 long wrenches so you can get some grip and some leverage.

Right hand thread, hammer and punch to break loose, no fancy wrench needed unless you have lots of money. :)

Did that once and broke the end off!!

1 5/8 is the nearest on my large one
1 7/16 the small one

thats about 42 MM for one and 37mm for the other. It comes with a scissor gripper to hold 2 of the 4 pulley bolts.

it takes a 1 1/2 wrench. and it is reverse thread. just hammer the wrench a couple times till it comes loose. I have done this like 10 times cause the fan clutched suck on these trucks. i have put 8 on my 97 and 2 on my 02 done by the dealer. so i guess i want doin anyhting wrong. i am almost considering sellng my truck cause my warrenty jsut expired and i dont want to deal with my sonoma breaking down all the time.
