is it normal for a 85 2.8L to have a top speed of 80mph? cus i hit this radar thing like 7 times with same reading.

would a carb increase the top speed?

Speed units can be out of calibration, too...

I had a Colorado Highway Patrol officer claim my 1985 2.8 ext cab 4x4
(auto) was doing 85mph in a 55 zone UPHILL one day in 1996. When
I laughed at him, he threatened to take me to jail; but, "let me off"
with a ticket for $60.

While it was a pretty truck, it was still too gutless to take that hill faster
than 50mph.

HFMF, about the same for me with a 2000 2.2l extended cab.

actually any 85 2.8 ....

of course the older I get the less 85 means anything to me ...

my 2.8 top out at 103

a slight uphill grade on the road

I know because one of those tailers with a radar and screen to show you the
speed was on the side of the road

the v8 i put in mine did wonders for top speed and 0-60 times too.
i never drove it with the 2.8 in it, i did have a 2.5 s-15 that did better then 80 though

I topped my 91 2.8 5-speed s10 with 3.43 gears out at 106 going down hill. That MPH was obtained form the speedo (I switched my gauge cluster out for the 110mph one). My 2.8 is not stock though, it was modified significantly. Full exhaust MSD ignition...the list goes on. Before I did all my modifications hitting 80 was difficult, so I would say you are right one track with your top speed.

i was comin down the road, and this van was going slow, so i decided to pass, cus he had no blinker on, then when i started to pass, he turned left starting to go into his driveway, so i tried to avoid getting hit or hitting him, and went off in to the yard infront of him, he rammed the side of my truck causing me to spin through the yard and slam the side of my truck into the telephone pole which was ready to fall after i hit it. this whole thing fells like a dream, especially when it was over and i was looking at my busted to shit dash. so....yeah you people need to turn ur blinkers on like 100ft b4 you turn. and check ur mirrors.

totally sucks

welp 20 year old 160 hp isnt highway king material

i woulda took it to court , gotta gain speed to get over a hill if it was very steep
going 50 going up a 50 foot 40 % grade hill will bring you 2 30 mph when u get to the top

u can speed when going up a hill after the hill should be a speed sign
then you have to go the normal limit

i love pissin cops off cuss they no ill win when i go to court

ever try to get cuaght going down on a soap box derby track thats what i say to the cops the usaully let me go scott free

i got a 61 in a 35 thats the only one i couldnt fight

an remember a 100 ft is bout 6 s10 links
