Heater core Removal

Does anyone have a good procedure on removing the heater core from the s10
1992 with the small parcel shelf underneath the dash. There is not enough room to remove the duct face. Does it require removing the whole dash or what is the best way? Help!

The whole dash needs to be disassembled, I had to do it on my 93 blazer, same dash design, its NOT FUN :(. At least replacing the heater core itself is easy.

you can remove the 4 screws from the def. vents, then remove the dash mounting screws(one is facing down rigt above the rh kick panel,another one should be facing the same way under the radio. and maybe the one to the right of the steering colum, you have to take off the trim panel to get to this oneand the head will be facing the driver side of the truck. btw all these screws are 10mm at the bottom of the dash . execpt the one by the colum.) and you should be able to swing it out enough to get the heater box out

I have done the heater core in my 91 s10 (with ac) twice in the past 4 years. I suggest you get the original equipment heater core over the cheaper after market one because this is one fix you don't want to do again because of a cheep part. The first time I did my heater core I had to take the entire left side of the dash apart and it took me like 12 hours to complete. The second time I did it, I had to do the same with the dash, but it only took me 3 hours. The trick I fond was if you take out the passenger bucket seat or bench it make it a lot, A LOT, more comfortable to work under the dash. You will need some universal joints and extensions but you can get at all the screw with out removing the entire dash. It is frustrating but it can be done and done quickly too if you work smartly.
