hello all. I am going to completely redo my intake becuase I have a 2" cowl induction hood which will involve removing my old intake snake and making a pan that foam seals to the hood and have a K&N filter hooked up to the TB. Anyway, I was looking for some pics if anybody else has done this just so i can get a god idea to get started. Now I also want to redo my exhaust which will entail removing my old stock muffler and I want to replace it with something stainless steel and that will make my truck sound good but not like a ricer. I also want to put dual exhaust out the back but I would also be satisfied with a single pipe out the back. Anybody have any suggestions/ideas?

here are some helpful pics and information on a members cowl pan build up.
im not sure what a 2.2 has for induction so this might not even be compatible for you. as for the exhaust im not sure what would make it sound un-ricey but big glasspacks are always a good decision and flowmasters sound decent too.

i've always liked the symmetrical look of duals. Just remember that when you build the exhaust system the type and size of tips you choose will also determine your exhaust tone. Case in point. My friend has a 03 silverado. he's got true dual 40 series flowmasters. Its running 2 1/2 inch piping all the way back. He's got 18"x5" stainless steel tips. Yes they are "GIGANTINORMOUS!!!" (I know its not a reall word. so Brian K please don't bust out the dictionary) Any way his definately make a HUGE difference in sound. His exhaust would SCREAM but had a really throaty sound. He cut them off to relocate them into the bumper. While they were off you could barely hear the exhaust even under full throttle. So just be sure to take into account the size and length of tip your going to use.

use a flowmaster camero muffler. 1 in 2 out , i did it to my turbo 2.2 s10- it sounds awsome- not like a rice burner at all! :D
suzuki, did you notice a hp difference or just sound? also can you honestly say that it doesn't sound rice or like every other toyota 4 banger truck with no muffler at all? i researched x haust on my 04 durango and every body told me a single exit will produce more torque. any experience in the two setups

Dual tailpipes are soooo custom which is the whole point of modifying our trucks different from all the stock ones. :D

I would think the dual's would be way too overkill on a 2.2. I can understand on a v6 4.3....but when put a heavy flowmaster it sounds very much like ass. I put a moderate magnaflow hi flow cat and muffler on the 2.2, and it's a nice low sound that doesn't buzz.
Ultimately up to you though. I personally don't like the appearance of dualed out pipes unless its on a performance application. In fact, mine is tucked under the rear passenger wheel like a turndown so you can only see the tip.
If i ever do a swap I would for sure do a true dual from the headers back. but until then...i'll just tuck my tail.

personally i love the sound of the duals but u get more performance out of the single. So it's between sound or power which ever is most important to you. I'ld go with the single personally.
camaro muffler won't really work. It's designed to be mounted perpendicular to the body and has outlets at each end.

From a practical point of view, leave it stock.
You can apply the money to something else, or better yet, save it.
An unmodified truck has higher resale value.

Single just cause i have a 2.2. Maybe if I had a 4.3, I would go duel w/ exit on the side. From a practical point of view, I would spend all my money on my dime, if i could

I already do. Cheap date - bring her to the drive ins...3 movies for $7.00 and you get to sit in the back of the truck while doing whatever. :D
Did all of you know, that a twin size bed fits 100% perfectly in the back of our trucks. lol. I have an ext cab long bed but as far as I've seen most of the beds are the same. A twin fits between the wheel wells perfectly and comes right up to the tailgate.
Just thought I'd share my new found bit of knowledge.

Spend the money on cosmetic mods, performance exhaust on a mostly stock 2.2 is not worth it. Under load the 2.2s don't sound good at all.

You don't like the sound of a pissed off bumble bee daryl? Hahaa. :D
Dual I love the look and I plan on putting a roll pan on it and running it through the roll pan.

Tips are 20" long (I think) and 4" around.
The look better when they are clean it had been raining alot here.

I own a 98 2.2 and i have a one inlet, two outlet with no converter but i didnt run the pipes all the way out, i just had them turned down at the corner of the bed so you cant see them. It has a good sound plus its not too noisy inside the cab.

i have a 1 in 2 out and goes under the frame to the side dual exhaust... sounds very beefy for a 4-cyl. and i get compliments all the time... i went under the frame though.. Gibson has a side exit but goes over frame on right side... i don't know if that would change it really but mine sounds nice.. there's some ideas!
