Anything electrical in my truck (Windows, locks, lights) runs really slow when I am not in motion. I was going to buy a new battery and alternator, but i found someone who could just rewire my alternator with larger wires for cheaper. Will this be as good as buying a new alternator?

Is this due to a large stereo system? If so, you may need to check into gettting a capacitor.

First thing I would do is look for the source of your problem. How's the battery on a load test? What's the alternator doing? Connections? (power AND grounds). What power accessories are you running other than stock?

capacitors do not help ......they are just a bandaid on a severed head .
run through your powr and ground connections and make sure there is no corrosion . then have the charging system tested . if the alt is on its way out then by all means upgrade now .

If the problem is your system drawing too much power you might want to invest in a High Current Battery because it takes the strain off your alternator!!!

the alternators' job is to provide power while the truck is running , and charge the battery . within the first 10-20 minutes the alternator is done charging the battery . when that happens the alt continues to power the whole electrical system , but at a lower voltage level to prevent damage to the battery from overcharging .
even with a huge battery fully charged the alt will still continue to do its job , and if it cant keep up its time to upgrade the alt not the battery .

Take apart your connections and make sure they are clean. Then have your battery load tested and the alternator load tested. Most places will test for free if you bought the battery from them. Parts houses will test your alternator if you take it off and bring it in. Good luck with it! :)

If you HAve a High Capacity battery It will prolong the life of the battery for the truck and the alternator!!!!!
