dont waste ur time..to say it abruptly, 2.2 cant exceed a certain amount of hp without terminating itself anyway i think its like 200hp , correct me if im wrong :-/, that is to say without serious build up of internal components, which is $$$. but either way ur almost there with a 4.3 on the hp side of things to start with so...2.2 gets gas mileage not horsepower..lol

personnaly, a turbo will run you some cash, for the same amount of money, you could put a stock 4.3 in for the same or possibly more hp...completely stoock

Don't give up on your 2.2 just yet. There hasn't really been any conclusive evidence about the limitations of that engine. In theory the weak link is the two bolt mains. Most high output engines have four or even six. While this is probably the case, it is very presumptuous to simply say that the engine has a limit of two-hundred horsepower. A properly built 2.2 has the chance of easily operating in excess of that number, but that theory is, as I said, fairly untested. The idea of building a 2.2 has been tossed around (more like argued bitterly) by several senior members of this site, all to come to the same conclusion: it is fairly untested. There are members who have turbo setups, most without a properly built engine, good tuning or testing. I'm not a big advocate of the 4.3L swap. Why? Simply put, if you are going to swap an engine, make it one worthy of swapping (say it with me class,"LS-1"). Some people love the turbo fours and one guy has actually done a SR20DET motor swap into his dime. Whatever you do, you are in for a learning experience in either fabrication/tuning or fabrication/swapping.

An engine swap for me on my own would take weeks. I've never done it before and I really dont want to really mess with the gas mileage at 3.25 a gallon in PHX. I can get the turbo setup off a friends 3000 gt he trashed and it wouldn''t cost me more than $300. I really don't mind the fact that my truck would become a ricer or what ever. I have a 69 camero with a built 355 2,300 miles away. Tucked in garage untill My pop dies. I would like finaly for someone to help me figure this out more than tell me why I shouldn't. There are atleast a dozen people listed on the net, that have done it without taring the whole engine apart and say they love it.

The 2.2 is really unfairly treated to me. Check out Sportruckspecialties.com. They have a lot of parts available for the 2.2. like cams, rockers, ported throttlebodies, ignition packs and even reprogramming available for the computer. I've read about a head by Patriot being made i'm not sure if anything every came of it. They "claimed" 400 HP capable with that head. I'm sure thats gotta include other mods to the engine.
I'm not sure how far off the ecotec 2.2 is from our 2.2 in our trucks but those Ecotec Cobalts are running 8 second passes at 179MPH. Obviously they've got a whole lotta sh*t done to those engines but its gotta inspire us some how. The basis of the engine is the same right?

The ecotec 2.2 is a completely different critter. No similarities or interchangeable parts. It's just a coincidence that it also displaces 2.2 liters.

A stock Colbalt is pretty weak. Id say my stock 2.2l was faster than a stock auto cobalt. My brothers got a brand new one that i got to drive. Top of the line just not supercharged and it was dirt slow. but however i was mashing on the companys chevy malibu today and the 2.2l ecotec impressed me. Its definately an engine with potential.

yea basically dont waste ur time..unless ur going to build the ENTIRE engine to withstand the power,

Im not looking to take on a camero or run 8 second quarter miles I want something like 215- 250 hp without a crazy nitrous or a motor swap. I don't have the time for that

just look up al ackerman...he runs a 174ci chevy 4 banger in a short wheelbase dragster, hes clocked a career best of 8.03 at 163+ mph. He runs an F-Dragster in NHRA.

oh yeah, no nitrous, and its naturally aspirated; 5 speed air shifted clutchless tranny, and really skinny (8" wide) slicks in the back cuz the motor makes very little torque.

Get a 4.3 and rebuild it with performance parts.
a 4.3L V6 has the same stroke and bore as a Chevy 350, so some performance parts are interchangable, just make sure you know what you're doing
Personally I'd like to see someoene take a 4.3 and do as much as they can to it, because the 4.3 is just an awesome piece of machinery.

built 4.3?
look at the image of the motor under 'my truck' on my profile...
bored 4.3 to 283ci, two carbs, powerglide, light weight dragster-7.70's @170+mph.
took this pic at Maple Grove during the Lucas Oil Divisional Race.
Want to see a strange setup, look no further than the Competition Eliminator cars.
