So here goes.....

I got a 1996 S10 for my first car/truck about 6 months ago. I really wanted a muscle car or something with some balls but I got stuck with a little 2.2 L 4 cyl. Anyways, Im looking into a 350 V-8 swap into my truck but Ive heard some things baout the '96 2.2L and how you cant swap a V-8 into it. So is there any truth to this or what? Another thing is I am pretty new to this swapping stuff so I have no idea what I need. Dont get me wrong, I know what Im doing and my whole family could help out but I wnat to do this thing by myself for the most part. So baically what ALL do I need for this swap if its even possible? I am looking into a late '60s 350, then possibly adding aftermarket heads, intake, and carb. But what kind of tranny will I need, I have a 5 speed right now in my truck, but I know it will need to be replaced. Ive looked into the swap manuals from JTR, but I would like to find out what I need and if its possible before throwing down $30 on a manual (remeber Im 16, so Im not quite rolling in the money). Any help is greatly appreciated, and props on the forums, looks great!

Buy the manual. If you can't afford $30 for a book that will answer every single question you can think of (and even some that you didn't) you can't afford the swap.

also, pay the 5.7 dollars and become a member of www.mys10v8.com. go through and read some old posts, and remember that every onethere has probably done the swap. plus theres some cool" peeps" there too. :D

I was planning on buying the manual, but wanted to make sure the swap was possible into a 2.2L first. Now that I know its possible, Ill go buy the book.

I bought the manual and it helped tremendously. It has a lot of the tricks and the tips for installing the V8. It will answer all the questions you have and has several different model s10's that it covers. It is well worth $30. Keep in mind that the swap is expensive and all parts should be acquired prior to starting the job. Have patience because their is very little room for mistakes, much less to work.
