View Full Version : Drop shocks
Could someone recommend a good set of shocks for a 4/4 drop (spindles,coils,leafs,1"block) I'm looking for something that will give me a stock like ride, maybe just a bit stiffer for a little better handling. I've seen some different reviews on belltech shocks, but they never specified nitro-active or nitro-drop shocks. Any help is appreciated.

I heard the Nitro's are great?! Although Sam said I don't need new shocks, I will probably get the Nitro's up front soon, I will be running air shocks in the rear.
Jason, let me know how those Nitro's (drop or active?) ride. I may end up getting a set for the rear or maybe both.

Sure thing Sam, I probably should just go ahead and get them, (even though they're not cheap), but Sept is approaching quick and if I'm gonna have the front and rear suspension out, might as well add some new front shocks, instead of putting the 40K ones back in? I will check it out tonight and let you know sometime in after Labor day :)

the nitros are a good choice
Which nitro shocks? Nitro-drop shocks, or Nitro-active shocks?
Ron, I'm sure they nitro-actives are better than the nitro-drops, but I'm unsure of how much better considering they cost more. I played ball with a guy that had a set of nitro-drops on the rear of his Dodge Ram that he lowered 2/4. He bottomed out constantly with any kind of weight in truck *just 2 guys riding in the back to the games. He also had the new stops on that belltech sent him. they were installed like belltech said, but the axle missed them. Guess belltech screwed that one up. His axle hit the frame constantly, so i told him to put the old stops back in and cut them down. All that to say, the nitro drops were weak on his truck, but that's a Ram.

Belltech makes quality products but you are right, sometimes they mess up. I ordered Belltech 2" Drop Spindles, and they sat in my garage for months before I got enough money to get them put on. It turns out, they didn't tap one of the holes out all the way where they should have, and the shop charged me an extra $50 to have that done.
When I called belltech, they pretty much told me tough luck they should have been returned. I dont know about you guys, but stuff for my truck doesnt get put on the day after I get it in the mail. Paying for parts is one thing, but getting them installed is a completely different situation. That also costs money, and sometimes more than the product itself.
I was an apprentice last year at an Auto Body shop for a class in High School. And one of the projects was a 67 Chevy on a new frame with bags all around and a 4 link. They shaved everything and did a lot of bodywork on that truck. They ordered the belltech handle relocator kit, and it came with no protective finish on it at all. Bare metal. By the time the shop came to use it, they had to take off plenty of surface rust from it.
I personally think a company with Belltech's standards should be paying more attention to stuff like that. I'd hate to see something good like them turn into something like AIM industries. Just my opinion.
It's hard to find quality products these days. I also had the problem of the hole not being tapped enough. My damn bolt twisted off in the hole because of it. There's no excuse for that happening. The hole should have been tapped all the way through the entire spindle body, and it would have been fine. Belltech's parts are good, but they miss a lot of little details just like every company I've ever bought from, except stealth conversions. They pretty much have it together. Autoloc is another company that leaves out very important info.

i have a 4/4 drop on my blazer and used the eldelbrock IAS shocks. they are a little pricey but well worth it. every other lowrider i have been in has that famous "lowrider bounce" with these there isnt much bounce at all. my blazer feels more like a vette or camaro then a slammed S10.
