Howdy Everyone,

My rear end in my truck GMC Sonoma 2000 4X4
locked up on me the other night. Here are the symptoms

1. After I drive no more then a foot or so my rear end jerks and comes to a sudden stop

2. Before that it would just drag my tires when i turned a corner

3. THE CAUSE or atleast what happend.
When i pulled my truck out of park i was in nutural and didnt notice untill i tryed to pull foward opps well heres my big mistake i just pulled it down to drive and my whole truck shook and pelled out i wasnt at more then 2,000 rpms

so what could my problem be
thanx

After making sure a brake on the locked up side has not seized...

The first thing I'd look at is the spider gears in your rear differential,
then I'd look at the 4x4 transfer case and front diff.
Without being able to actually be in the same place to look at it, I
can only give it my best guess.

I thought i might add sumthing my truck will go into 4wheel drive and the front wheels wont lock up but the rear one still do

i would just take off the rear pan and see whats goin on, its easy enough to do. could be a spider gear aor you lost a bearing and the ring is wedging against the pinion etc.

Also if it has a G80 Eaton Locking differential in it, they are prone to breakage upon hard acceleration. Pull the cover off and inspect for numerous fragments in the carrier.
