how easy or hard is it to replace the idler arm? i went to get my oil changed and they informed me that my cv shafts are shot and so is my idler arm and estimated a grands worth of parks and labor.... im sayin forget the cv shafts for now dont really need them. but the idler arm is the reason my truck favors the left side... so any info would be appreciated thanx
p.s they quoted me 188 for the idler arm and 98 for the labor
and its a 99 blazer 4x4
Pretty easy. 2 bolts through the frame and a lock nut on the arm. remove the nut competely, then separate the joint with a fork. Now remove the frame bolts and install the new unit. You have to remove the nut comepletely so the the stud won't turn when you pop the joint and try to get the nut off. when you put the new one on, vise grip the arm to the centerlink so the tapered stud will not turn when you put the nut on. when it's fairly tight, remove the grips and tighten all the way. reinstall the frame bolts. Should take about 30 minutes once you get it lifted up and figure out what to do. Impact wrench makes it quick. Make sure you get a good idler like one from MOOG through carquest auto parts. You will have to install a new grease fitting and grease it well before you drive it. You can get an idler arm in the $40-50 range from a store, at least mine was, and it's a much beefier one than stock. Yes, do this yourself. I'd suggest an alignment when you're done.

jack the truck up and remove the pass side tire.
if u follow the tie rod ends in toward the center of the truck it is right there by the inner tie rod end. one nut there and then 2 bolts through the frame. you prob have to pull the lower shield off too.
It's on the pass side inner frame rail. has 2 bolts on the frame and one on the center link.
