I have a 2.2L (2002) 5speed and I am thinking about changing out the rear end gearing. I was thinking about going to 4.10. I am trying to get some more performace when I am hauling my quad and camping stuff. Any other Ideas to get more power out of it.

You have to take the rearend apart. You'd be better off taking it to a professional so that everything gets set right.

if you are mechanically inclined and patient, its not that bad of a job. there are plenty of resources online too if you need assistance. a 2.2 is made for gas mileage puttin 4.10s is gonna kill your top end.

Just buy another rear end. They are a dime a dozen at the junkyard. It will save you a lot of time and aggravation just to pick one up with 4:10s already in it then to switch your gears. If you look around you can find a good rear end for around 200 bucks and that’s about the price of a new set of gears. Unless you want to go crazy and change all the internals on your rear end (axles, carrier gears...) I would just get new 4:10 rear end from a junkyard.

You could even swap to a rear disc rearend with 4.10 gears. costly if you get one with posi
