i'm trying to install some new door speakers on my '03 s10 and i'm not quite sure how to get the window cranks off. i wanted to check here first before forcing them off and risking breaking them. thanks.
You can buy a special tool that removes the clips behind them, but I just use a flathead screwdriver or split retainer puller. All you have to do is push in on the door panel and place the tool between the plastic bushing and the crank. Then pry one side of the retaining clip from the crank. It's a little hard to see it, but it's there. You will have to point the crank up and toward the windshield to see where to pry on the clips. The are gold and look like an OHM symbol (when you take it off you'll see the shape). Push the clips back onto the crank and add the bushing back BEFORE reinstalling the crank.

He nailed it. They are kind of a pain, and be careful not to jab whatever flat tool you use into your paneling, like I did creating numerous scratches.

or get a metal clothes hanger and bend a sharp hook in one end of the wire and use it to grab hold of the little clip and pull it free.
at Napa that tool cost 5 bucks and it is worth it

Eric is right. That tool pays for it self with one use. It makes the task sooooooooo much easier.
