I have a 99 s-10 with the 2.2 automatic. I am on my third tranny in 8 months, but wasn't driving it that hard. I was wanting to know if i had to change the instrument cluster if i converted to a 5-speed? More importantly, do i need to change anything dealing with the computer? All help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

it would be an involved swap. you would have to install the pedal assembley, master cylinder, and slave cylinder. you would also have to make room for the shifter to come through the floor. im not too sure about the computer tho, it might throw out all sorts of codes and what not when it realizes it doesnt have a transmission to shift anymore, and might affect other systems. you probably wouldnt need to change the cluster it would just be a matter if you wanted to get rid of the prndl indicator ar add a tach if there isnt one already. and after all that you still have a 2.2 sitting under your hood. j/k. i would leave it alone and take it to a competent shop to see why you have gone through three trannys.

three tranny's?!? sounds like they weren't shifting right or something like that. hmmmm...I would keep the automatic and like racer said just take it to a good reputable shop for a diagnostic.

I you really want a manual go buy a truck that already has one in it!! Yes, you will have to change the PCM and also the rear axle ratio for this change. You are talking about a lot of work and headaches!!!
