My fuel gauge either reads full or empty. never in between. Has this happened to anyone else and if so what is the fix. Right now I am driving on mileage count.

Need a new sending unit. Takes a while to do. You have to get to the top of the fuel tank to change it depending on what year it is.

This is true, but good luck getting the gauge to be accurate. I had to put a new pump into my 96, we replaced the sending unit and entire assembly (was actually cheaper). Now my gauge is sorta accurate....When it hits empty, I know there's still another 150 miles to go. Don't feel too bad.....I'm driving on mileage count, too

on my 97 2.2 when i bought it it always read full, then i tried to fix it with a junkyard piece, then it always read empty, i just replaced the whole thing the other day, the fuel pump died, it read full again, but the tank is full, so im not sure yet if it totally works, was doing the trip odo for 3 yrs

Sending unit isnt hard to do so I would replace that and put a auto Meter fuel gauge in a pod somwhere. That is about the only way to fix it right.

i got my fuel pump with sender assembly at the dealer, gauge works proberly now, think there is a difference in them, they asked for the last 8 of my VIN to get the part number

Hey thanks for all the info. It sounds like either I accept the fact that the gauge isn't going to work or goto the dealer for the part. I think I'll give the dealer choice one try if that doesn't do it I'll be back to mileage count. Again thanks.
