So I was driving to Mt Vernon a few days ago and saw a new bodied grand prix gtp, and started matching the guys speed. He realized that i was playing with him and punched it, at this point i was turning about 3000rpm in 5th(4.10 gears rule!), i heard him downshift and the whining start, so i banzai'd it to 3rd and kept dead even with him through 3rd, 4th, and finally when i shifted at 6800 into 5th i started pulling away a little bit(i'm guessing he hit overdrive) and kept pulling away till i realized that cops love to patrol this nice long stretch of road. I doubt it woulda been a contest with my n2o but i conveniently left my bottle in my dorm room. O well, does anyone out there know the times from 60-100 on the gtp grand prix?? I mean the newest ugly ones. I think if it was a new gxp i woulda gotten wasted. I would appriciate any info on these idiots driving around these s/c grand prix's. Thanks

dunno, my tach pegs at 7000
I had put a 4cyl plate in the display with the 7000rpm motor, but the msd has a 7200 chip in it, but i know the poor engine is kinda not gonna take it for long! Dont ask me why it goes that far, it used to stop at 5500 before the msd, but we had a sunpro tach hooked up to it and it stopped at 7200rpm's

Youe truck BIO is pretty impressive. I have no doubt that your truck can hit 6800 RPM considering your heads and valve train. I am not sure if that is a smart thing to do often but I am sure that your truck is capable of what you say it is. You got a nice truck there.

I test drove a GTP. AND there pretty fast. heavy feel but i have the feeling the s/c GTP can beat an N/A 4.3l. there power band rips through all the rpm ranges. i tested an automatic too.

I looked into it further, it stops at 6200 not 7200. My bad guys, anyways, the cluster is sending too many pulses as it is reading the full sweep 6000 and i have a 7000 tach face so once again my bad, i thought i had a 7200 chip but it is the 6200 once again my bad. and i know from a stop the gtp woulda wasted my a$$!!!! But i was wanting to know the 60-up times on them. I know the older ones with the 3.8s/c are quick off the line but somewhat slow down in their acceleration as the rpms build. Once again guys, I learned something today....dang i should put my old face back on...LOL Thanks guys for helping,
Andrew

My 4 banger????WTF???? I dont think you grasp the idea, I have a 4cyl plate in my dash, but i have a mildly built 4.3L vortec with the 5speed manual. Sorry to be an A$$, but you evidentally have no idea wtf you are talking about....BTW, yes a gxp would smoke me, I know that...That 5.3L is supposed to have over 300hp right? O well, have fun and thanks,
Andrew

Hey do you remember what color that thing was?? I live in Owensboro, KY, not too far from your area and my boss who lives and works in Evansville drives a '00-'01 GTP. His is a very dark maroon color, almost purple looking, and its unmistakable because it has a big black bra on the front of it and an Evansville Aces license plate (though you beat him so you may not have got a look at his plates :D.) He's definitely the kind of guy to race somebody...he's got that car and an '87 Grand National. So he likes to go fast apparently.

It was a dark grey/charcoal color, but it was much newer than a 2001. It was one of the newest models like 03-up I think....All I know is that they are ugly!!!!
Thanks

sorry andrew , didnt read your lil tag on the bottom
you should get it on the dyno see what kinda numbers your pushing
no way ur gettin a 13.2 are ya running a 100 shot makein 286 at the rear wheels
an 338 at the flywheel , make a pretty good engine for only 262 cubic inchs ,
i wanna see some time slips
so a x code 98 motor 190 horsepower so your makeing 50 - 75 more horse power just with spray , a done up motor hmm ,,,,,,,,,
some body seen to many movies

260-hp, 3.8-liter V-6
303-hp, 5.3-liter V-8 , so if your truck does 13s then you would have no problem eating either one of em cuss its a big 4 door sedan which i would think even with 300 horseys would only do a 14-15 quater
an there is no way your doing 13s on a built 4.3 more tricked out on spray if you are i dont think i would be going out of town with that piece
an if your really do have a bottle i suggest you dont disconnected it every day
you could mess up a fittin on the lines an have a black sheep episode
god i love that movie chris was the shit
gtp, gtx , zrp, abc , american car companys dont know how to name cars anymore
could of brought it back with somethin oldschooly

thanks guys, the truck has a cam and minor porting, now has 4.10 gears(I HATE THEM!!!!), but it ran 13.6 with an 80hp jet zex kit(80hp as long as the foot is on the floor, since some people dont understand that), bfg 255/60 drag radials, and me takin 2nd off the line...I took the bottle out because remarkably enough...I don't need to use it(I also think i'm scared of blowing the engine since I never did any bottom end work), BTW,where did you get 13.2from????? O well, I appriciate someone finally giving me some actual info on the gtp and gxp. Thanks

Quoted from car and driver...."Puffed up by the 9.5-psi sirocco from the twin-rotor Eaton supercharger, the big pushrod V-6 slings the Grand Prix to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds, faster by a half-second or more than all the prestige machines mentioned earlier. The quarter-mile clicks by in a virile 15 flat at 93 mph, but after that, progress slows as the lungs of a two-valve engine start to burn for lack of air."
Ahhhh, so that is why I was able to get away, Plus I have 4.10's compared to the gtp's whereas he had 3.29's... Spray woulda made it no contest, but the gears made all the difference today....Plus the bang your own NV in the middle of my floor!!!!!! LOL Thanks for everything

some people just don't appreciate a well built 4.3, but i have found you'ld be suprised what they will do with minor modifications to mine and my truck almsot keeps up with my friends hyundai tiburon gt v6 hes quicker after about the first 2 gears.

I am not suprised you kicked it's ass. I bought one for my wife and when you get on it the rev limiter kills it at 4K and weh you are driving down the road it will only go up to 6K. i fthe Rev limiter was off It may have gave you a run for your money. I have seen some of the GTP's with a reprogram run mid to high 14's
