I bought a Jet performance one through summit and went to install it and it was the wrong one. They gave me a 54mm one but the 4.3 vortec has a 44mm.

I have th 180 stat from JET performance. It will work fine. But Sometimes you might get a code PO128. Meaning engine not at full running temp. depending on what year your truck is. Mine is a 02.

I think I got mine from Advance Auto Parts. It may have been Autozone, they both have similar colors for their logo. Anyway, I can't remember the part number. I just know the brand name is Stant and it was under $10. I bought the 160 degree 'stat first, but it kept throwing SES lights.

What all advantages do you get by running a lower temperature thermostat? also, do you have to modify your cooling sytem any?, since i'm assuming that your coolant flow will increase.

Cooler operating temps leads to longer engine life and a little more hp. You can expect to lose a slight bit of MPG. You don't have to modify anything. Your coolant flow isn't increased, it's just allowed to start flowing at a cooler temperature. If you have an automatic, I would recommend a transmission fluid cooler.
