Well, not really, but that's sorta what it looked like this weekend after we took the front end off my truck. It has been too long, the truck is finally back at my house, and it's approaching the time for the V8.

All the red stuff on the frame is from when I had not one, but two, waterpumps explode, and yes, that is an amplifier power wire holding up the fuel lines.

Soon, the engine will be at my house too, getting painted, prepped, and ready to go in. I'll try and keep y'all posted.

The Goodwrench 305/Th350 combo my dad gave me. The engine isn't ideal, but it's free, and has almost no miles on it (plus my engine compartment will be ready when I get the $ for a swanky v8). I got a Holley Street Dominator manifold and 650 carb. and I'm planning on getting a nice streetable cam (& lifter kit) that has a little bump to it, so if anyone has any suggestions on what duration/lift I should go with, let me know. I also would like to know what dimension radiator people are using for their V8 swaps.

Ditto. I've had good results with the Corvette radiator. You'll find it on this site's store, along with s10v8.com and a couple other places. If memory serves, the total width is 28-3/4" wide and I can't remember how tall, somewhere around 19". I do, however, remember there's 24" of actual cooling surface (fins) and that a 10" and a 14" fan cool better than dual 12's. (Do the math and you'll see which has more surface area and which setup flows more CFM)

The Chevy 305 is a great motor, one of my favorites actually, and I don't see why so many (guys mostly) people dog on the 5.0L. It really is the perfect little motor for an S10 because it puts out in the 240-280hp range, similar to 6-8psi of boost from a supercharger or turbo, yet has more low end torque than either of the boosted applications. With the right tranny, rear gearing and a light foot, it's not uncommon to see over 20mpg with a 305.

I'm assuming this is going to become your daily driver again, so you can't have a lopey cam sucking gas barely able to idle. We can suggest cams all day long, but what it'll come down to is having power from idle all the way up to the 5000's with a lobe separation of 111-112 degrees to bring on the torque faster. I wouldn't look any higher than .465" of lift in the intake or exhaust department unless you had Rhodes V-max lifters to cool down the idle. Check out summit, they have an easy Camshaft selection menu.

I agree that the 14 and 10 will flow more than my dual setup.... but my dual setup is shrouded more efficiently than an individual 10 and 14 could be.... would be nice if someone made a dual 14 10 in one shroud.

Make it come with relays and AC controls built in like most Flex-a-lite fans.

The 305 is awesome for a daily driver, its not going to make the s10 balls to the wall all of a sudden like a good 350 would but it will sound better and the s10 will definitely go better than a stock 4.3. It will be a 13.5-14 ( I think...heheh) second truck, then when the built 350 comes it can be made into a 12 second or less :D and the you don't even have to redo the drive train now because your stock drive train can handle a mild 305 so it sounds like your starting on the right path. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the suggestions. As for the Vette rad. I was looking at either that or one of those universal aluminum rads from Summit or Jegs, but their dimensions (LxH) are bigger than the stock rad. so I wasn't sure they would fit.

The 305 will get me in plenty of trouble I'm sure, especially considering I'm going from 4cyl to V8 :D

How about a nice brushed aluminum fan shroud? I could even probably make that happen with my little hand brake and sheet metal shears. I actually plan on doing that for the Jimmy when I re-install E-Fans and wire everything into the PCM and have it control my fans.

In that case, yes you will really feel the difference. I drove my parents 318 Dakota 220hp/290tq and my own blazer 190hp/250tq and the dakota was faster but it was not crazy faster. My parents new hemi vs 4.3 that was WAY more noticable!

Keep us posted.if your going from the 4 popper to a V8 than by all means go the 305 route if funds are limited or your just starting out and want an economic lil grocery getter (aka shopping cart! :p)but as for me Ill stick with me 4.3 thean maybe when I get there Ill go with the 5.3 from a Yukon with a few mods like the LS1 intake and a lil hotter cam than stock

rember though with a SBC the best mods you can do it to make the mouse roar is to make it BREATH so anything you can do to the intake and exaust sides to open it up helps lots!

Uh, no, not really... :( I sorta assembled the engine mounts. Someone I know *coughcoughDADcough* needs to get a truck (that runs, we both have engine-less s-10s) so we can cart around automotive and m/c sh*t (my engine and tranny aren't at my house, that's hindering some progress). I'm not bustin' on my pops, but he's sold two vehicles in the last 6 months and is actually in the market for a truck (an s-10, of course!) When he gets some more of his truck done I'll put pics up, it's an '85 and so far he's got the front clip painted this amazing shade of Hugger orange, it's gonna be the sh*t when all of it is orange.
