hey, has anyone made a custom tube intake for their 4.3 v6. I know people have, i just wanna know how they are compared to a FIPK K&N. i have heard they nay produce more power and flow, and where did you get your piping and what kind of filter did u use???

I got my piping from my Civic short ram intake, and the silicone couplings, heavy-duty hose clamps, and filter from the import speed shop. I made the front support bracket with some aluminum flatbar from the hardware store.

What ever you do... PVC piping and anything using in a dryer installations does not belong under the hood of your truck.
And s10xtremist I have to complement you on your well-done homemade intake. It does not look homemade at all, and that should be the results every one is after when they attempt to build a homemade air intake. Anything less looks cheep.

Thank ya! I've since replaced it with a Wynjammer, but I kept the silicone couplings and hose clamps to use on the pressure ducting.

depends on which v6 you have. i have the cpi system with the spyder on top. do you have this or a tbi? with mine i also used a honda civic tube, had to cut it to fit, used a cone filter that came iwth the tube, i don't remember what kind. used some hose clamps and rubber grommets to connect them. i can take a picture and email you if you would like.

naww its ok, i have the TBI vortec motor. i am just gonna use a piece of 3" exhaust tube madrel bent to replace the crappy looking plastic intake, and a cone air filter on the end.

I have the same engine, try this it a lot less work. take the lid off the tbi, then flip it, and reinstall screw on tightly.(no dirt will get in because the lid makes a perfect seal, clean lid befeore you do this though) its that easy, it sounds cool at full throttle and it gives you better MPG and the best part you can feel the diffrence when you step on the gas. (more power)

Also, make a heatshield for that intake, that is what's going to make the difference. you can use anything, i used a piece of a street sign, sanded it and painted it to make it look pretty. worked well for me :)

The TBI (throttle body injection) is a type of fuel injection. it looks like a carb(round filter in the center of the engine) but its controlled by the computer.GM stopped making the TBI engine in the S10 in 1995. Your 2000 extreme has a diffrent type of fuel injection probably (SFI sequential fuel injection). hope this explains what you were looking for.

Sorry You cant flip anything on you engine(yucko) the sfi engine you have is far superior to the tbi engine.

Yes I did....
I used PVC 3" piping ( painted same color as truck ), rubber reducer, and
a K&N cone filter. A heat sheld was made of of sheet metal. It was easy and
works great. There is a problem with the air cleaner sucking in the heat
created by the left headlight. To fix this problem, I vented air throught a scoop
on the radiator support wall. Everything works great, except when it rains.
The scoop sucks in water, but who races in the rain anyway.
