Hi all -

I have a 98 ZR2 with about 77k miles 4.3 auto.

I have an SLP coldair intake, bosch plat+4 plus, accell 8mm wires, and a gibson cat-back exhaust.

My question is:

What should my next mod be?

I'm looking a spend a couple hundred or so, and I don't want to hurt fuel economy (thank you Mr. President).

i vote headers...you'd have a well rounded 4.3L, nothing major like a supercharger...but certainly nothing that one should underestimate...

Want some mileage along with some power. Efan and pullies!! 1-1 1/2 MPG's along with 5-7 or so hp! Revs easier thus requiring some less pedal effort!

I vote dump the bosch plugs, I had some on my truck and they sucked. after about 3k to 5k miles they where spent. I replaced them with the oe ac delco and they work alot better. (I have bosch wires and accel ignison coil, msd cap/rotor kit and a jet chip. this may be the cause of the spent plugs. To hot of a spark.) If you want some power try a programer. it worked pretty well on my truck also improved th MPG, ( Unless you have a heavy foot)

i think i would have to agree with old man here. i would do the e fan and pulleys before i did the headers but both are very good ideas

Bosch makes a quality plug, but the +4s are know to fowl up. That is why I went with the +2s and never had any problems. I would suggest you go with headers or the pulleys and E-fan. They are quality up grades that probably won’t hurt your gas mileage (Not sure how header will effect gas mileage).

I had the Bosch platunium +2s on my truck they were great at first, then went downhill from there. You think 5k miles is bad. when i first got the plug I thought they were great so I talked my good friend into getting some for his Formula mazda (its a cheap formula 1 style race car for, for people with too much money.) we installed them and took it to the track for a test day. he said they ran awsome for half a lap (this was a 1 1/2 mile road coarse) by his second lap the car was missing horriably. he pulled in to the pit bearly running. we gave thge engine a once over there was nothing wrong. So we pulled the plugs, to see what we had going on inside the engine. Guess what we found. the spark plug we just pulled was burned completly through ( you could look in one end and see out the other). so we pulled another one same thing sure enough all 4 were like that (it has a Rotary 4 cly that insane fast). ever since those two mishaps with the bosch Plat. plugs I have stuck with ac delco.

Mike D I have no idea why that has happened to you, and not to me or any of my friends that running the same plugs. But I know mine have lasted me a long time with no issues at all. I have probably got over 10K miles on mine. That’s weird... I don't know...

I have had the Bosch Platinum plugs in my 1993 4.3V6 engine for over 5 years now without any problems. The engine is stock other than open airfilter and exhaust. Maybe it is because of your high performance ignitions that you are having problems. At least AC Delco will work for you with good results. :)

I was told you are not supposed to run platinum plugs with any type of ignition amplifier. When I installed my MSD, I replaced my platinum plugs with AutoLites just for the time being. If you running an ignition amplifier, you should run a colder plug. MSD recommends a plug with a 1-2 heat range colder than stock.

I am not running a stock ignition either. Here is what I am running in my 2.8 with no problems for about 2 years now.
MSD 6A ignition box
MSD Blaster Coil
MSD Heli-Core wires
Bosch Platinum2 spark plugs

I am not sure if the performance ignition is the scapegoat that we are looking for.
