I saw that episode, I think the sub was called a jackhammer(never heard of it until the show) and the car was a buick century.
Anyone have any info on that sub?

only problem with a sub like that is it cant move very fast very much or it will break it down very fast....and due to its size it plays only extreamly low notes well.. so its basicaly impractical for everyone...more for show

02whtxblazer- you should go with a 15'' avalanch or a 15'' xxx that would pound so extremely hard

your thinking all wrong there .......a subs size has no effect on how fast it can move .that all has to do with the motor strength, they dont use the same motor for every size sub for that reason.
the only thing size determines is how much air can be displaced .

i know they dont use the same voice coil but the material used for the foam surrounding has to be beefed up and can only be made so big ...and at that point its covering a larger area and is more prone to fail. also it takes a larger voice coil to move it (relitivly) as like a 12 but it takes far more power....and larger speakers play lower tones better (thats Y tweeters are small) so you get a speaker that large it will only play low tones most efficently. and the tones get so low that they cant be heard by humans. now i know your going to say well normal tones can still be played and yes they can ...but this also takes more power to do so at the same volume. anyway i could go on and on but trust me on this....i had 2 18" JL with 1000w Xtants runnin to each they eat power up and only play low tones well

ok first off that mic they used on pimp my ride only goes to 130db trust me ive looked into it 2nd off size in terms of inches has a very small amount to do with the sq of a sub...its mainly dependent on the motor and a bunch of other factors which im not going to go over with you here...the weight of the actual cone makes far more difference then the size it is in inches and yes making it bigger will make it heavier but the motor can make up for it...the best sq sub ive ever heard was a TC9 and guess what it was a 15 and trust me ive heard a lot of subs...heres a small list 13W7 8W7 TC915 RE XXX 12 Oriorn H2 15 Brhama 15 rf T2 15 the list goes on and on...3rd i dont like the Jackhammer simply since it is uselesly big and i think they made it more for marketting hype then anything...i havent gotten to hear one yet but no1 will ever incoroporate that into a daily driver unless they drive a bus around so imo its pretty useless...ok im going to stop here...
