performance muffler with sound?
What muffler or exhaust system can I put on my 2.2 automatic to make it have a noticable tone to it ? Deep tone may not be possible, I don't know. My neighbor has a V6, Vortec I guess in his fullsize chevy and it sounds like a V8, he constantly has to rev it up when he backs up like he's trying to impress someone. I know with my 2.2 I can't compete, but I just want something you can hear. My truck is bagged layin frame, so if I need a full system, it will have to be custom bent. HELP???????????

Before I blew up my 2.2 I had a Flowmaster Delta 40 on it and that thing sounded good. Apparently the neighbor at my boyfriend's former residence was envious of the sound of my truck compared to his 4.3 SS S10 with stock exhaust, I wasn't there to hear him say this, but, my boyfriend and his roomate told me. So that's my personal testomonial.

I heard a 2.2 today that I thought was a V8. The guy had a Flowmaster 40 Series on it. Allthough when he guned it... I knew it was the 2.2 but there was no Rice in the Sound. I made the mistake of rushing it and got a Cat-Back system with just Glasspacks and it took 2 months to melt the glasspacks enough to get the Rice Sound out.

go rice with it , go down 2 advanced auto parts get a what they call a thrush pipe , (cat back or glass pipe ) an some clamps an hacksaw if you dont have one an but a 4 inch tip on tha end of tha tail pipe ,
i dk i dont have a 2.2 but tha stock 4.3 muffler is so huge it can flow good so i imagine its tha same one for tha 4 bangers ,
it will give kinda of a rice'y sound kinda i mean any muffler on a 4 banger is gonna sound rice'y so i dk

Simply not true. A cheap muffler will sound like crap (a raspy blat sound), but if you spend enough money, and time researching your choices, then you will be very rewarded with a great exhaust tone. Gibson makes a pretty good cat-back for the 2.2s. I would recommend them and a good header. If you want a high-flow cat and to mellow out the sound, either magnaflow, or flowmaster (can't remember which) offers a combo cat/resonator piece.

Go Gibson
Go with the Gibson Cat Back.I have one for a 4.3 on my 96 2,2 and it sounds good. I never liked the loud noise of some exhaust just a healthy rumble. It definately has that.

Hmmmmmm a 4.3 SS owner envious of the sound of a tutu? .......I'll take your word for it, props to you even if I do not agree.
On a 2.2 automatic, I suggest you stick with something deep yet quiet or just quiet. The sound of the 4cyl is not too pleasing to the ear if it is loud. Keep a deep quiet rumble and you will be fine, go with a loud muffler and you will be soooo RICE that it will be embarrasing for you and all other fellow S-10 drivers.

The only cool thing about a flow 40 and cat delete on a 2.2L was the occasional fireball and the fact i never found a ricer with a louder exhaust.......as long asyou keep it in the low rpm's, it sounded deep......higher rpms and ultimate ricer began.....lol.
