If you want to put a ton of money into your 2.2L to get up to a 4.3L's power, go for it. Otherwise I'd say do a 4.3L swap - but since you're already doing a swap why not just throw in a V8?

By the way, welcome to the site!

i'm not trying to be smart.....but if you want a v6 s10 sell your 4 banger and buy an s10 that already has a v6. It will save you a lot of time and money. But if you are in love with your truck, want more power, and have an alternate means of transportation, go ahead and do the v8 swap. however, judging by the way you talk you do not seem to be experienced in this type of project. so it would be very helpful if you knew someone who had the neccessary knowledge and skill to help you out.

some more things to consider in making your decision:
is this your only car?
is this your daily driver?
how do you use your truck?
do i have or know someone who has the neccessary tools to do a swap?
how much money am i willing to spend?(i dont think swapping a v6 will save you money over a v8)
can i live without my truck for x amount of time while i do the swap?(expect to take longer than you think)
what are the engine swap and emissions laws like where you live?

And I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but if you don't know what engine will work with your truck, you should do a lot of research before getting too involved with your project. Use the SEARCH feature of this forum. There is a lot of info to be found on this site, so use it.

Again, if you want a V6, sell your truck with the I4 and but a truck with a V6.

There is a guy in the process of building a stage 1 turbo kit for the 2.2 that will add close to 100hp on stock internals. The kit is going to be completely bolt on and can be done in the driveway with basic tools most people own. There are good reasons to boost the 2.2 but most people are blind to them and tell you to get rid of the truck for a 4.3 or dude do a V8.

I will believe it when I see it. The little 2.2L would blow with that much boost on stock internals. There have been tons of turbo "kits" made for the Vortec 2.2L (check out www.s10forum.com) and most only make it as fast or slight faster than most stock 4.3L's. People are not blind to the 2.2L, they just don't have pockets deep enough and they don't want to waste the time.

It's an economy engine, leave it at that.

Believe me I have the 2.2 and I have looked at all the options and at the end of the day a 350 Crate Engine is cheaper.

Full Turbo Kit: $1299
Reinforce Cylinder Walls: $200
New Heads: $300
New Exhaust Manifold/Headers: $500
New Exhaust: $100-$400

+Money lost due to Part Running and Time lost during intallation you are better off going to U-Wrench it or any motor place buying a crate engine and do it that way. A 10 sec 2.2 would be nice but the engine wont hold up long enough to really enjoy it.

Forced Injection is really not the answer for power anyways. I will take a NA Engine anyday looking in the long run. Why spend so much money on Turbo's and SuperChargers when they diminish the life of the engine to the point you will be back to square one in a year or 2.

Not true at all. I would take a well built smaller displacement engine with a turbo over a larger engine N/A. With the correct combination of parts, you will maintain great drivability and economy as well as have the power when you want it. There are plenty of turbo/supercharged engines out there with over 100K miles on them and still run well. It's all how you maintain it.

Now for a all out race engine, go with big displacement and forced induction.
