Not that I need the compass, but it would be a cool function to have simply because every one of our vehicles has a compass except mine. I'd like to ditch the rearview mirror with maplights and get a normal plain Jane rearview mirror that doesn't rattle when I play the system loud. Hearing those map lights rattle just ruins the music for me.

And about the extra lighting; I have a center console compartment that I can't see in at night without taking the whole compartment out and holding it up to the map lights. Having the extra little storage bins up there for sunglasses, emergency gas money or the garage door opener would be nice.

Yea this overhead console has lots of storage. A garage door opener compartment, a slot for napkins (or money), sunglasses compartment, the compass and temperature gauge, the four rotating map lights, and a dome light.

For $20.50 it's mine. I suppose I'll write up a how-to when it arrives.

I'm not sure how well it would fit in an S10, but the overhead console in the blazers does have lots of lighting and storage. I also have the lighting in the vanity mirrors but never have found it useful. If it does fit in an s10 it will take up a lot of space but it is handy. If I was to order a new blazer though, I would want one that had the temp/compass and milage in the mirror though like newer vehicles it's less bulky. The extra storage and lighting is handy though I have definatley used the reading lights to look for change and what not when at drive drive throughs, ect though and would probably miss not having them. I will take some pics of one in my blazer if it helps anyone. Oh rink, why do you want a floor shifter? I have one and I liked the column shifter in my old blazer better, because I like the extra space in the center.

Overhead console front screw location
Overhead console from back
Overhead console from side

I took these pics a few minutes ago, one has the front screw location and the other two are different angles to hopefully assist in getting an idea for size and mounting the overhead console.

I enjoy driving manuals but prefer an automatic. When I'm driving I like having the floor shifter to just rest my hand on and hold onto I guess. Some people judge a vehicle by the number of cup holders or the power of the engine, I like floor shifters and a tight turning radius.
